Boca Raton Museum of Art Summer Film Series – “Renoir: Revered And Reviled”

June 11 @ 2:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Thursday, June 11th from 2 – 3:30pm and 6 – 7:30pm guests will enjoy a Film Screening of  Renoir: Revered and Reviled at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Written and directed by Phil Grabsky | 87 min. | Two Screenings. RSVP HERE.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir built his reputation on Impressionist paintings of Paris, images so beloved they rank among the world’s favorites. But Renoir grew restless with his own success, and the work that followed his pivot remains as polarizing today as it was in his lifetime.

This film draws on the remarkable Renoir collection at Philadelphia’s Barnes Foundation to trace that later evolution. The paintings still provoke strong, divided reactions. Picasso and Matisse count among the artists who were clearly shaped by where Renoir chose to go. What emerges is less a conventional biography than a reappraisal, one that positions Renoir as a critical bridge between the art world’s old order and what came next.

After the screening, visit the galleries to see a Renoir painting on view in Modernisms: Art from the Manes Collection.
