SUMMARY:de la Cruz Collection Summer Workshop: Light\, Space and the Camera - Alternative Processes in Stained Glass
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, July 14th\, Friday\, July 15th & Saturday\, July 16th; a 3-Day Workshop from 11-4pm at the de la Cruz Collection. Glass has become an increasingly sophisticated medium for artistic expression. Too often overlooked\, stained glass has the capacity to activate space in saturated light environments that recall cinema and theater alongside transcendental associations with spirituality. SUMMARY:ICA Ideas: 'Pictures of Susan' Documentary
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, July 21st at 7pm The Institute of Contemporary Art\, Miami presents the South Florida premiere of “Pictures of Susan\,” a feature documentary about rising New Zealand-based artist Susan Te Kahurangi King by Director Dan Salmon. With the enduring support of her family\, King creates expressive\, boldly undulating works of color and line that frequently coalesce into appropriated cartoon-like characters\, predating Pop art. The film examines the artist’s upbringing and earliest works\, her twenty-year dormant period\, and the recent resurgence in interest from the art world for her idiosyncratic drawings since resuming in 2008.
