SUMMARY:Titus Kaphar Opening and Gallery Talk at the Lowe Museum of Art

Linking the artist to this family is Benjamin Vesper\, a mentally troubled man who\, inspired by one of Kaphar’s works\, reaches out to the artist for help in reconstructing his family’s history. Also enjoy a Gallery Talk at 7:30pm during the evening’s reception at the Joe and Emily Lowe Museum of Art at the University of Miami.

SUMMARY:Locust Projects: Antonia Wright and Katie Bell
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 10th from 6:30-9pm join us at Locust Projects for the opening reception of Miami artist Antonia Wright and Brooklyn-based artist Katie Bell. Conversation with the artist(s) at 6:30pm / Opening reception from 7:30-9pm. Exhibition runs through October 8\, 2016.\nAntonia Wright: Under the water was sand\, then rocks\, miles of rocks\, then fire\nMiami artist Antonia Wright’s immersive installation inverts day and night\, surrounding the viewer with a maze of suspended Night Blooming Jasmine plants. During the day\, the dark\, jasmine-scented gallery will create a natural screening room for a video work featuring the artist falling through a frozen lake. As the day draws to an end\, a timer will activate the lighting\, deactivate the videos and transition the space into a sculptural light installation\, as the jasmine flowers close. Wright’s installation engages the senses to provoke a heightened emotional state. \nKatie Bell: Backsplash\nAs part of her exhibition titled Backsplash\, Brooklyn-based artist Katie Bell will present two site-specific installations\, in Locust Projects’ front and back rooms. Working with materials that include wood\, laminate\, linoleum\, plaster\, paint\, rope\, and fragments of hot tubs\, Bell will create sculptural paintings that seem to teeter on the walls of the space. Constructed from locally sourced found materials\, the works appear frozen in flight\, as though they have been caught in the middle of a violent storm.

SUMMARY:Dot Fiftyone Gallery: New Space Grand Opening Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 15th from 7-10pm join us at the Grand Opening of Dot Fiftyone Gallery in Miami’s Little River District. The new gallery space opens with two new exhibitions – Dot Fiftyone is pleased to present ‘Slow in my Shadow‘ a solo presentation of new paintings by the prolific and active artist\, Hernán Cédola. The show presents a series of large paintings and drawings in the same vein of his previous period\, although making headway in his search of some of the tensions from the field of abstraction. Some of the works to be exhibited\, have been produced by the artist during his four months artist in residency program at Ateliers Hoherweg E.V.\, Dusseldorf – Germany in the spring of 2015. Simultaneously in gallery 2 enjoy the video installation ‘Passinho from Ungovernable Project‘ by Brazilian artist Dudu Quintanilha. Ungovernable aims to record performances that are not displayed live in public. It seeks alternative contexts\, working with bodies with and without artistic education. The goal is to research and articulate the “short duration” of the performance in the interlacement with people and spaces along with the permanence and temporality of “long duration” movements of the registered work. The exhibitions will be on view through October 2016.

SUMMARY:Tranter-Sinni Gallery presents Artist Jamie dePasquale's EXPLORATION + EVOLUTION: Game of Life Series.
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 29th from 6pm-9pm join us for the opening of artist Jamie dePasquale’s exhibit EXPLORATION + EVOLUTION: Game of Life Series at Tranter-Sinni Gallery. The newly arrived gallery proudly presents a Grand Opening exhibition of award-winning artist and former Roy Lichtenstein’s assistant Jamie dePasquale. Leading into 2000\, the artist began experimenting with sculptures and discovered the idea of scale in his works. Creating his island paintings\, which will be featured in this upcoming exhibit with Tranter-Sinni Gallery located in the world-renowned Museo Vault Building in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District. The exhibition opens September 29th and runs through October 29th\, 2016.\nIn 1976 Jamie began his art series with his pattern paintings\, inspired by a viewing of a horse against a brick wall that would help influence his idea of electric\, 3 dimensional images. Pretty abstraction with an idea of vandalism through his ripped canvas. He went on to show his work at the Monique Knowlton Gallery. Showing a variety of his cartoon portrait\, stylized\, non-existent animals. From dogs to lions\, Jamie’s lion theme making a huge impression on the art scene in New York. Jamie dePasquale received an outstanding review for his series by John Russel\, who was one of the foremost art critics of the New York times. In 1986 until 1991 the artist began working on his transitional works. Influenced by Roy Lichtenstein’s organized pictures planes\, 2 dimensional patterns and pieces lead him to his brick series to include the brick house and brick tree. He began drawing a series from this. His hobby of crosswords began to take on a life of their own. He was fascinated by the squares of how the puzzles can do anything\, how they can be manipulated by shape and color. Like a mathematical equation he would see the same in a stack of playing cards\, MaryJane wrappers\, mattress labels or domino’s. Connecting the dots\, leaving out edges and creating shapes and abstraction through his paintings. This series featuring his unique style of Cubist\, pop art.\n\nImage: Jamie dePasquale / Photography by Daniel Gonzalez\nUnder Penalty of Law\, 1991\nAcrylic on canvas\n76 1/2 x 101 inches
