SUMMARY:Rojas + Rubensteen Projects: Water Me
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, October 13th from 7-9pm join us at  Rojas + Rubensteen Projects in Little River for the opening reception of ‘Water Me‘\, an immersive exhibition challenging and nurturing the art on the walls (floors & ceilings) by constantly encouraging you to activate the art on view and stimulate conversation.\nIn South Florida everything is about water. We not only drink it and wash with it\, we swim\, snorkel and paddle through it. It nourishes our tropical lushness and keeps our lawns unnaturally green. Its currents bring us asylum-seekers and storms. We are pummeled by afternoon rains then make our way barefoot in shiny deep waters. It is a nursery for mosquitos and a precious resource contaminated by every form of human run-off.\nArtists: Hila Amram (Israel)\, Franky Cruz (Miami)\, Orestes de la Paz (Miami)\, Troizel Carr + Isabelle Hui Saldaña (New York/ Georgia) and Naomi Safran-Hon (New York) explore the power and interactive quality of water. On view October 13th through November 16th\, 2016.

SUMMARY:The Box Gallery Presents 'The Work of Don Shearer: A Retrospective'
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, October 14th at 7pm join us at The Box Gallery for the opening reception of ‘The Work Of Don Shearer\, A Retrospective‘. Guest curator Sandra Schulman has followed Shearer’s career for over 30 years. From the late 80’s to present day Don Shearer has been one of Miami Beach’s most puzzling enigmas in the art world. The humble and somewhat reclusive artist has works in the collections actor Willem Dafoe and the late Vincent Price. Shearer has navigated his career from group shows on South Beach to his one man show at Madison Square Garden. Don is 2 time HORTT winner at the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art\, with accolades from the 1993 cover of XS Magazine to a profile spot on New York high society’s holy grail “Page Six” of the New York Post.\nSchulman has organized Don’s early to most recent artwork in design\, paintings\, clothing\, steampunk & hardware as an installation to be experienced\, placing the viewer not in front of the work\, but inside decades of complex and rich juxtapositions of Don Schearer’s creations. A unique artist and talent\, Shearer has been in the South Florida and New York art scene for over 30 years\, known for his angel paintings\, bold activist graphics\, found object jewelry\, painted furniture and installations. The Box Gallery is proud to announce the first solo exhibition on the Cultural Corridor of West Palm Beach.

SUMMARY:Frost Art Museum: Opening Reception of Pierce\, Mark\, Morph
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 22 from 4-7pm join us at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum for the opening reception for Pierce\, Mark\, Morph. This exhibition explores the piercings\, markings and cranial modification in Pre-Columbian sculpture drawn from the Jay I. Kislak Foundation Collection juxtaposed with work by contemporary artists who are utilizing the body as canvas. While the methods may be similar physically\, the intent and concepts behind modifying the human form differ greatly.\nMiami is a city synonymous with body transformation. Our city is famous for morphing and embellishing the human body through surgery\, piercings\, tattoos\, and other forms of modification. However\, many forms of body modification used today are not unique to Miami or youth culture. Piercings\, markings\, and other forms of alteration have been practiced across cultures for millennia. In addition\, artists today are experimenting with modification to reflect and convey ideas related to justice\, identity\, environment\, and gender. Exhibiting artists include Lauren Kalman\, Carlos Martiel\, Hiromi Moneyhun\, Tatiana Parcero\, Cecilia Paredes. Exhibition runs through February 12\, 2017.\nImage Credit: Lauren Kalman\, Hard Wear (Oral Rims)\, 2006\, inkjet print\, Courtesy of Sienna Patti Contemporary.
