SUMMARY:de la Cruz Collection: Lecture with Tauba Auerbach
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, January 13th at 6pm enjoy a cocktail and dim-sum bar reception + a lecture at 7pm when the de la Cruz Collection presents: Lecture with Tauba Auerbach / Introduction by Jeffrey Deitch. Tauba Auerbach is a contemporary American artist best known for her varied use of painting\, printmaking\, photography\, and installation to examine the underlying structures of language and perception. In her Fold paintings\, Auerbach molds large pieces of canvas by pleating\, folding\, or rolling\, and then lays them flat to cover their surfaces with a spray gun\, aiming it at different angles to pronounce the surfaces’ highlights and textures. This inventive\, labor-intensive process exemplifies her interest in amplifying and complicating existing perceptual structures. “I like the idea of proving little things\, and incorporating those discoveries into bigger\, open questions\,” the artist has said. “But maybe art is better as a speculation or proposal than a proof.” Born in 1981 in San Francisco\, CA\, she went on to receive her BA in Visual Arts from Stanford University in 2003. Auerbach has been featured in group exhibitions at the New Museum\, The Museum of Modern Art\, and the Whitney Museum of American Art\, and her works are found in the collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art\, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo\, and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm\, among others. She lives and works in New York\, NY.\n(Artnet.com\, 2016)\nAdmission free\nComplimentary valet service will be available

SUMMARY:Mindy Solomon Gallery presents Dominique Labauvie's Material Catch and Michael Conrads' Celebrating Opposites
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, January 21st from 6-9pm Mindy Solomon Gallery presents Dominique Labauvie’s ‘Material Catch’ and ‘Celebrating Opposites: The Work of Michael Conrads’\, enjoy an opening reception with the artists; new exhibitions on view January 21st–March 4th\, 2017. \nDominique Labauvie’s newest body of work is a series of sculptures and drawings focused upon ruin as subject\, a theme often addressed in art history\, and weighing heavily in Labauvie’s thinking as ever-present in our society by way of environmental damage\, cultural destruction\, government\, and concern for the future. In Labauvie’s view\, material culture – the remains of what once was – is material evidence which aids in understanding the past.\nMindy Solomon is proud to introduce\, for his first Miami solo exhibition\, the work of Michael Conrads. Currently an artist in residence at the Fountainhead in Miami\, Conrads hails from Germany. Conrads believes good painting is a manifestation of the artist’s emotional and intellectual sensibilities realized on canvas. Ultimately\, achieving a visual epiphany and the fulfillment of an aesthetic journey is the final goal.
