SUMMARY:Enlightened: Contemporary Photography by YoungArts Alumni
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 5th at 7pm join us at YoungArts Gallery when National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) presents its first-ever exhibition dedicated solely to photography\, Enlightened: Contemporary Photography by YoungArts Alumni. Featuring the works of 27 artists in Photography\, Visual Arts\, and Design disciplines\, this multi-generational show is curated by photography luminary and YoungArts master teacher and panelist Michelle Dunn Marsh.\nEnlightened celebrates the work of established alumni such as photographers Thomas Carr and Corinne May Botz who were YoungArts winners in 1982 and 1995\, respectively\, alongside a younger generation of artists including Cidgy Bossuet (2012)\, Aaron Cohen (2016) and Maxwell Zengage (2016). Spanning 34 years between the eldest and the youngest of participants\, the exhibition explores photography across time as a twenty-first century medium. SUMMARY:Emerson Dorsch: Curator's Talk about Paula Wilson
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 6th at 1pm join us at Emerson Dorsch gallery when Salty & Fresh curators\, Tyler Emerson Dorsch and Felecia Chizuko Carlisle will host a discussion and share insights on Paula Wilson’s practice and the historical narratives at play in her work. Salty & Fresh will close on May 13th\, 2017. Paula Wilson works from her home base in the remote New Mexican town of Carrizozo. There she luxuriates in an abundance of wide-open space while bathing in the array of a rich color gradient sky that is reflected by the White Sands desert floor. Escaping to the Land of Enchantment is nothing new for artists\, but Wilson’s form of refuge comes in the material act of making. She makes printmaking into a political act through its promotion as an art form. She undoes post-modern trends and Southwest histories of land art by shifting back to the studio\, back into the process.

SUMMARY:Laundromat Art Space presents Exposed: A Photography & Film Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 13th from 7-10pm experience the opening reception of Exposed: A Photography & Film Exhibition at Laundromat Art Space. “Exposed” is an exhibition about deepening access to the essence of environment and character through photography and film.\nFeaturing Artwork By:\nAdler Guerrier\nCarl Juste\nRod Deal\nTerence Price\nThe show presents four Miami artists\, each of whose work speaks to a multi layered and deeply intimate observation of humanity and individuality. The haunting lyricism of a documentary by Terrence Price stands in beautiful contrast to the highly formal exploration of Adler Guerrier’s neighborhood homes. The raw and soulful elevation of individuals by Rod Deal\, via the merging of word and image\, converse poignantly with the refined and singular Pulitzer Prize winning moments captured by Carl Juste.

SUMMARY:Emerson Dorsch presents Iron Oar by Robert Chambers
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 19th from 6-9pm join us at Emerson Dorsch for the opening reception of Iron Oar by Robert Chambers.\nChambers is a Miami legend. With his corkscrew wild hair and his rapid fire barrage of ideas that meld art & molecular biology or physics\, his persona is archetypal – even romantic. He has built upon the second part with storied and historic studio visits – more like happenings really – in his backyard jungle-studio-paradise in Coconut Grove. And with solo shows at the Sculpture Center in New York and the Laumeier Museum in St. Louis\, MO\, as well as a number of significant public art projects\, the impression he makes holds ground. About a year ago\, he took the helm at the Sculpture Department at FIU\, where he overhauled their facilities with the help of an enthusiastic team\, including a new foundry that can cast up to 700lbs of bronze.\nHe will use the newly renovated sculpture lab to create his show for Emerson Dorsch\, his first solo show in Miami in more than a decade. Exhibition runs through July 8\, 2017.

SUMMARY:Fabien Castanier Gallery presents 'Rubber Time' featuring Andrew Schoultz & Mark Jenkins
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 20th from 6-9pm join us for the Opening Reception of Rubber Time at Fabien Castanier Gallery in the Wynwood Arts District\, featuring Andrew Schoultz & Mark Jenkins.  In this upcoming dual exhibition\, both artists will present new work\, paintings and sculptures. “Rubber Time” refers to an idiom from Indonesia that expresses the tendency for a relaxed and flexible perspective on punctuality and time-keeping. Schoultz and Jenkins apply this concept of “elastic time” to our current societal climate in the United States\, seeing the present period as a suspended limbo with troubling unknowns both in the past and in the near future. Their work touches on political and cultural issues with dark humor and irony\, reflecting on what they see as the\ndevelopment of a unique moment in history. Both of the artists often address societal issues that are not easy or comfortable to confront\, but are relevant and necessary to reflect upon. While seeking out the dark corners of our current moment\, Schoultz and Jenkins present the turmoil and anxiety with a tinge of hope for the future.\nImage: Andrew Schoultz\, “Don’t Tread on Me” (Broken Flag).
