SUMMARY:The Bass presents Haegue Yang: In the Cone of Uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 2nd from 6 – 9pm The Bass brings together new and existing works spanning the last decade\, In the Cone of Uncertainty presents a selection of Yang’s oeuvre ranging from blind installations\, anthropomorphic sculptures\, light sculptures\, and mural-like graphic wallpaper pieces that will explore themes related to identities in flux\, climate change\, notions of movement\, displacement and domesticity. This exhibition runs through April 5\, 2020.\nIn addition to sculptural works\, her approach often mobilizes performative as well as sonic and olfactory elements. Yang’s works are known not only for their diversity of media and methods\, but also for their eloquent and seductive sculptural language of visual abstraction\, often derived from her research concerning historical figures and events\, and traditional craft techniques. Her multi-sensory environments to go on view at The Bass\, prompt uncontrollable and fleeting connotations of time\, place\, figures and experiences that connect us – transcending the individual field of perception. Some of her anthropomorphic sculptures play with the notion of ‘folk’ as a vernacular idea\, while also eclipsing it as a tradition of specific cultures.\nMember Reception | 6 – 7 PM\nPublic Reception | 7 – 9 PM

SUMMARY:Locust Projects presents Trenton Doyle Hancock: I Made a Mound City in Miami Dade County
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, November 17th from 1-3pm experience the Opening Reception of Trenton Doyle Hancock’s ‘I Made a Mound City in Miami Dade County‘ at Locust Projects. The heroic adventures of Torpedo Boy and his battles in the Moundverse continue at Locust Projects this fall with a new site-specific installation by Houston-based artist Trenton Doyle Hancock. This is Hancock’s first large scale solo exhibition since opening his major survey\, Mind of the Mound: Critical Mass\, at MASS MoCA in March 2019.\nHancock tells the story of the Mounds (gentle hybrid plant-like creatures) protected by Torpedo Boy\, and their enemies\, the Vegans (mutants who consume tofu and spill Mound blood every chance they get). These narratives–told through paintings\, sculpture\, drawings\, prints\, video and installation–explore good and evil\, authority\, race\, class\, moral relativism\, politics and religion\, as well as making unapologetic nods to comic books\, illustrations\, animations\, horror films\, and toys. The exhibition is on view through February 8\, 2020.

SUMMARY:Durban Segnini presents Sergio Hernández\, Parábolas
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 22nd from 7-10pm Durban Segnini Gallery cordially invites you to the opening reception of Sergio Hernández\, Parábolas. Catalog Essay by Professor Edward J. Sullivan. The exhibition for which this text has been prepared is a landmark and a turning point for the artist Sergio Hernández. It is the first time in many decades that his large-scale paintings have been seen in the United States. While Hernández has long been at the center of the Mexican art world and has had numerous ambitious exhibitions in Europe\, he has curiously been elusive for U.S. audiences. In 1999\, Hernández was given his first major gallery show in the U.S. when Associated American Artists presented his “Recent Work” but we have had to wait until now for another representative exhibition of his more contemporary achievements.\n\n  \nImage: Sergio Hernández\, Sin título / UNTITLED\, 2013. SUMMARY:Miami Design District – Lagerfeld: The Chanel Shows
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 29th from 10am – 5pm experience a special showing of Lagerfeld: The Chanel Shows\, an exhibition of works by fine art photographer Simon Procter\, is opening on November 29th in the Miami Design District‘s Palm Court (140 N.E. 39th St.\, Suite PC102\, Miami) and will remain on view through January 3\, 2020. The exhibition\, by Rosenbaum Contemporary\, features photography from Procter’s book Lagerfeld: The Chanel Shows\, which was published in September by Rizzoli. Lagerfeld: The Chanel Shows can be viewed during gallery hours\, Monday through Saturday\, 11am to 8pm and Sunday\, noon to 6pm.\nProcter enjoyed unparalleled access to Karl Lagerfeld’s legendary runway shows for Chanel. The works on view provide a glimpse of some of Lagerfeld’s most iconic fashion shows including Chanel Beach\, Spring/Summer 2019\, Le Grand Palais\, Paris\, in which models walked along a long\, sandy beach lapped by real waves inside Paris’ Grand Palais\, and Chanel Ultra Rocket\, Fall Winter 2017\, Le Grand Palais\, Paris\, in which a realistic rocket gave the illusion of launching\, complete with sparks and smoke\, from inside the same venue. The featured works also highlight Procter’s unique aesthetic\, which synthesizes his fine art background in painting and sculpture with fashion photography to document the grand scale of runway shows and the architectural spaces in which they take place. More than mere documentation\, however\, many of the exhibited works illustrate Procter’s intense post-production methods which truly capture the spirit of the ephemeral runway shows.\n  \nImage: Lagerfeld Above Chanel\, Fall/Winter 2006\, Paris\, 2006.
