DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, June 16th at 7:30pm experience a documentary on PBS South Florida Project Film-Maker Season 3 of ‘Uncanny: The Dolls of Mariana Monteagudo’. The film follows renowned Venezuelan plastic artist Mariana Monteagudo\, currently living in Florida\, through her creative process of bringing her intriguing and eerie doll sculptures to life.\n‘Uncanny\, The Dolls of Mariana Monteagudo‘ is a documentary by filmmaker Elaine Minionis. Shot between 2015 and 2018\, the film closely follows Mariana through the creation of her series “Uncanny”.\n  \n“Award winning Sculptor Mariana Monteagudo is a visual artist who has been working her series of doll sculptures over the last decade.\nHer latex\, ceramic and mixed-media figures are unique\, intriguing and fascinating. Her artwork shows interest in a wide range of references\, from the pre-Columbian aesthetics to fashion\, tv pop culture\, Japanese manga and mass-market toys.\nMuñecas (Dolls) is the generic term Monteagudo uses to describe her creations since 1998. SUMMARY:Coral Gables Museum: Canoe Tour
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, June 28th from 9:30am – 12pm enjoy a day out on the Coral Gables Waterway! This leisure canoeing experience led by Miami EcoAdventures and Coral Gables Museum staff encompasses both nature and history in a delightful blend of unique natural vistas and historic landmarks. Explore Gables’ manmade system of canals\, which added an impressive 40 miles of waterfront to the City – from Biscayne Bay through the residential section\, to the grand golf course at the Biltmore Hotel. A surprising amount of wildlife can be seen in the water and on the shore.\nRegistrants will meet at the Coral Gables Museum at 9:30am and start with a self-guided audio tour* of “Creating the Dream: George E. Merrick and His Vision for Coral Gables.” Then board a bus to the Waterway and onto your canoe for a two-hour paddling adventure! *Guests may also catch a 1pm guided exhibit tour after the canoe tour. Fees included.
