SUMMARY:BREACH presents Oh Baby
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 18th from 11am – 8pm experience the Opening Reception of BREACH gallery’s new exhibition ‘Oh Baby’. On view through October 16\, 2021. The group exhibition “Oh baby” with the artists Giorgio Ermes Celin\, Melissa Floyd\, Fatima de Juan\, Julien Jaca and Emily Manwaring deals with the physical themes of sexuality\, love relationships\, nudity and sensuality in contemporary painting. \nAt first\, the perspectives seem very different. Fatima de Juan paints doll-like stylised dark women who fulfill clichés and yet seem so surreal\, as if the animal-like warriors came from distant planets. As heroic badges\, they gather feminine curves to themselves. Melissa Floyd deals with hypersexualised\, vulgar self-portraits on social networks. Her images of people distort proportions even further\, exaggerate\, inflate\, until not only the face but the whole person becomes a grimace\, ultimately revealing a loose\, vital colour surface painting. Giorgio Ermes Celin stages (homosexual) relationships in intertwined and twisted body systems. The arms\, hands\, fingers and other body parts flow into each other like melting ice. Julien Jaca is dedicated to the French tradition of female nude models in painting. Inspired by Paul Gaugin\, he sets patterns\, textiles\, tattoos and skin in a naively exotic interior cubism. Emily Manwaring‘s pictorial worlds open up a romantic pop world of the 80s and 90s\, in which the sometimes playful and sometimes sensual body consciousness of black women\, teenagers and children takes centre stage.

SUMMARY:Fabien Castanier Gallery presents 'Brokedown'\, Jon Davis' solo exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 18th from 11am – 8pm Fabien Castanier Gallery is proud to present the Opening Reception for the solo exhibition of contemporary Miami-based artist\, Jon Davis. The exhibition\, Brokedown Palace\, is on view through October 16\, 2021. This is the first solo exhibition for Jon Davis at the gallery\, featuring a curated collection of mixed media works. \nThe artist presents his most recent body of work as an homage to the city he calls home. Throughout Brokedown Palace\, images capturing “moments” of Miami are fractured\, stratified\, and presented through a renewed understanding of not only the space they represent\, but as they currently exist within each seamless rendering. After undergoing a year-long distillation period\, this most recent body of work expresses the culmination of Davis’s practice over the past 30 years.

SUMMARY:PAMM presents 'Coming Up From The Blood'
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 23rd from 7-8pm the Pérez Art Museum Miami presents an art performance ‘Coming Up From The Blood’\, inspired by the combinatory nature of André Breton’s poème-objet\, COMING UP FROM THE BLOOD is an occasion of language\, allowing the surreal to manifest in space and place—just as text and object “excite each other” in the exhibition. The poet presents the self as art\, engaging in an intimate act of translation. In a classic call and response\, each artist journeys through emotional\, spiritual\, and physical dialogues between the self and the artwork\, bringing forth language true to land\, lineage\, and liberation. These artists respond to the fictive dreamscape of The Artist as Poet by embracing the conjure in creation\, the multidimensionality of reality\, and the serendipity of the surreal. Each poem is complete through its delivery and engagement\, presenting the poem as an event—or series of events—making up COMING UP FROM THE BLOOD. \nFree with museum admission.
