Experience a special performance featuting live jazz\, original lyrics\, rare archival footage about one of Miami’s most celebrated painters from 1970-90’s. This Event is Free & Open to the Public\, RSVP HERE. \nInspired by the life of Purvis Young (1943–2010) the self-taught artist whose work chronicled the people\, struggles and spirit of Miami’s Overtown neighborhood in his paintings\, Othello of Overtown explores Young’s artistic journey\, his relationship with community\, and the tensions between creative expression and the commercial art world. \nA special preview of the new production is happening during July\, the monthly First Free Thursday at NSU Art Museum\, many events are free and open to the public including this matinee performance in the Norma and William Horvitz Auditorium. \nThe play was written by Miami-born playwright\, director and actor Sefanja Richard Galon. The director is Carey Brianna Hart\, a New World School of the Arts and Goodman School of Drama at DePaul University graduate whose South Florida theater work spans stage\, backstage\, directing and radio arts and President of the South Florida Theatre League. \nEnjoy lunch and a coffee in the cafe and join us for the reading of about one hour with a conversation with the playwright\, director and cast afterwards.

Create a meaningful\, decorative textile wall hanging with internationally renowned multidisciplinary artist Cheryl Pope. \nIn this two-day workshop\, explore the special exhibition\, Get in the Game: Sports\, Art\, Culture\, to discover how artists use traditional sports banners\, pennants\, flags\, and fashion to express powerful ideas—including Pope’s own letter jacket artwork. These artworks will inspire the creation of our own stitched statements. \nIn the studio\, we’ll reflect on language and writing before designing and preparing felt lettering on banner backings. Using simple appliqué and hand-stitching techniques\, we’ll bring our words to life. The result—bold\, meaningful banners with motivational messages about everyday life\, personal reflections\, social justice\, or simply for fun! \n  \nThis workshop is for participants ages 14+. This free summer fine art exhibit exploring Florida’s evolving natural and urban landscapes will feature works by award-winning artist Tim Forman and photographer David Paulo plus contextual historical maps of our timeless state. On view from July 9 through September 13\, 2026. \nA free meet and greet with the artists will take place on Thursday\, July 9\, from 6 – 8 p.m.\, at the New River Inn Museum of History building on History Fort Lauderdale’s campus (231 Southwest Second Avenue). Complimentary light bites and beverages will be provided. \nVisitors to History Fort Lauderdale’s “Timeless Tropics: Florida’s Changing Landscape” will experience Tim Forman’s artfully curated oil on canvas masterworks of the Florida Everglades\, waterscapes\, beachscapes and natural wildlife. These landscapes are complemented by David Paulo’s bold photographic narrative of buildings and neighborhoods in South Florida that are significant to culture and life of minority communities. Documented cities include Sistrunk\, Lauderhill\, and Dania Beach. The artist‘s featured exhibition “Presence Past” on view July 5 through July 18\, 2026. \nFrom the time that Allen Finkel created his first clay head at age eight for a Cub Scout puppet project\, he has been in love with working with clay. This passion led him to study painting and sculpture in college\, where he earned his BFA. After graduating\, he quickly learned that making a living as an artist was not a viable option\, so he followed his other passion – being a psychotherapist. Being a therapist for more than thirty years has informed Allen’s work. He strives to portray the way that life’s joyful and painful experiences affect facial features and expressions. Allen uses his work a way to connect to his emotions\, and he hopes that it will have the same effect others. \nRecommitting to the vibrant programming that first brought acclaim\, Wilton Art Works will feature an outstanding rotation of Guest Artists every two weeks on its dedicated Guest Artist Wall. Each featured artist will be celebrated with an Opening Reception every other Thursday along with artist talks and live demonstrations\, creating engaging opportunities for collectors\, creatives\, and the community to connect directly with working artists.
