SUMMARY:Five Centuries of Prints from Rembrandt to Picasso at NSU Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 23rd from 5-7pm enjoy the Opening Reception of Five Centuries of Prints from Rembrandt to Picasso: Drs. Walter and Mildred Padow Collection. Fort Lauderdale collectors Drs. Walter and Mildred Padow began acquiring prints in Philadelphia in the 1960s and have greatly furthered their collection efforts since 1971\, when they became residents of Fort Lauderdale. This exhibition of over 100 prints highlights their distinctive collection of American and European engravings\, etchings\, lithographs\, and woodcuts from the 16th through the 20th centuries\, with works by such masters as Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) and Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528)\, as well as works by print masters from subsequent centuries such as Francisco de Goya (1746-1828)\, Georges Braque (1882-1963)\, Edward Hopper (1882-1967)\, Paul Klee (1879-1940)\, Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945)\, Marie Laurencin (1863-1956)\, Henri Matisse\, (1869-1954)\, Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841- 1919)\, and James A. McNeill Whistler (1834-1903).\nOrganized by NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale and curated by Barbara Buhler Lynes\, Sunny Kaufman Senior Curator. This exhibition is supported by BNY Mellon Wealth Management.

SUMMARY:NSU Art Museum's Opening of African Art: Highlights of the Permanent Collection
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 23rd from 5-7pm at NSU Art Museum of Fort Lauderdale enjoy the opening of African Art: Highlights of the Permanent Collection. Traditional art from Sub-Saharan Africa\, including works by important masters of regional styles and workshops. Curated by Marcilene Wittmer\, on view through October 23\, 2016. \nFeaturing approximately 60 of its finest works\, this exhibition explores the diverse highlights of NSU Art Museum’s collection of traditional art from Sub-Saharan Africa with an emphasis on the art of West Africa. One of the unique aspects of NSU Art Museum’s African art collection is the number of works it contains by artists whose identity is known. Included among these are works by important masters of a regional style or workshop. Among the works on view will be monumental carved wooden doors\, abstract plank masks from Burkina Faso\, shrine pieces and ritual objects\, as well as outstanding examples of African textiles\, beadwork\, pottery\, iron and copper alloy.
