The film observes the work of a group of skilled artisans in this 100-year old foundry and reveals the ancient traditions of bronze sculpture making\, unchanged since the sixth century B.C. / Fisher Gallery\nUntil 8:30pm / Bar and snacks by Potions in Motion / Fisher Gallery\nSchedule is subject to change. This program is made possible in part through the generosity of The Addison Hines Charitable Trust. SUMMARY:Titus Kaphar Opening and Gallery Talk at the Lowe Museum of Art
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 8th from 7-9pm join us for the opening reception of The Vesper Project – the culmination of New York City-based Titus Kaphar’s intensive engagement with the imaginary history of the Vespers\, a 19th-century New England family who were able to “pass” as Caucasian despite the fact that their mixed heritage made them black in the eyes of the law. Linking the artist to this family is Benjamin Vesper\, a mentally troubled man who\, inspired by one of Kaphar’s works\, reaches out to the artist for help in reconstructing his family’s history. Also enjoy a Gallery Talk at 7:30pm during the evening’s reception at the Joe and Emily Lowe Museum of Art at the University of Miami.
