SUMMARY:Wolfsonian-FIU: The Pursuit of Abstraction VIP Preview Party
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, October 13th from 7–9pm join us at The Wolfsonian-FIU for Members Only: The Pursuit of Abstraction VIP Preview Party. Members\, press\, and special guests are invited for an advance glimpse at the wonder of The Pursuit of Abstraction\, an exhibition on modern-age spirituality! Explore the mystical works on view\, enjoy specialty cocktails by Bacardi\, and meet the curator behind the curtain\, Matthew Abess. \nIn the first half of the twentieth century\, many artists experimented with new forms of expression that resisted a secular understanding of the world rooted in rationality and scientific reason. The Pursuit of Abstraction presents works of fine and decorative art that seek to re-enchant the modern age through spirituality and mystical experience\, drawing on the holdings of The Wolfsonian–FIU\, The Jeri L. Wolfson Collection\, and The Mitchell Wolfson\, Jr. Collection of Decorative and Propaganda Arts Promised Gift. Exhibition runs from October 7\, 2016 through April 16\, 2017.\nBecome a member by emailing membership@thewolf.fiu.edu / RSVP at rsvp@thewolf.fiu.edu.

SUMMARY:Rojas + Rubensteen Projects: Water Me
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, October 13th from 7-9pm join us at  Rojas + Rubensteen Projects in Little River for the opening reception of ‘Water Me‘\, an immersive exhibition challenging and nurturing the art on the walls (floors & ceilings) by constantly encouraging you to activate the art on view and stimulate conversation.\nIn South Florida everything is about water. We not only drink it and wash with it\, we swim\, snorkel and paddle through it. It nourishes our tropical lushness and keeps our lawns unnaturally green. Its currents bring us asylum-seekers and storms. We are pummeled by afternoon rains then make our way barefoot in shiny deep waters. It is a nursery for mosquitos and a precious resource contaminated by every form of human run-off.\nArtists: Hila Amram (Israel)\, Franky Cruz (Miami)\, Orestes de la Paz (Miami)\, Troizel Carr + Isabelle Hui Saldaña (New York/ Georgia) and Naomi Safran-Hon (New York) explore the power and interactive quality of water. On view October 13th through November 16th\, 2016.
