SUMMARY:Locust Projects presents Christina Pettersson: In the Pines
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, April 3rd from 6:30 – 8:30pm enjoy the Opening Reception of the new site-specific installation ‘In the Pines‘ by Christina Pettersson at Locust Projects. In the Pines transforms the Project Room at Locust Projects into a cemetery populated by early South Florida people and local figures unknown to most current residents. A lasting impression of the collective past\, cemeteries are perfectly designed to contemplate the past’s narrative and act as a memorial. Surrounded by drawings inspired by local sites\, visitors will be able to create grave rubbings from handmade tombstones and view a video of the artist’s travels through historic areas. The installation celebrates South Florida’s history by mourning what has been lost while also taking back the cemetery for the living\, strengthening our sense of community by honoring the dead and exploring their forgotten history. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of public activations. This exhibition is on view from April 03 – June 13\, 2020.\nAbout the Artist: Born in Stockholm\, Sweden\, Christina Pettersson has lived in Miami\, FL most of her life. Her last two solo exhibitions\, in Everglades National Park and at the historic Deering Estate on Biscayne Bay\, reflect her lifelong passions in her hometown.\n\n  \nImage: Photography by Eli Peck.

SUMMARY:Locust Projects presents GeoVanna Gonzalez: HOW TO: Oh\, Look at Me
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, April 3rd from 7-9pm enjoy the Opening Reception of GeoVanna Gonzalez’s solo show at Locust Projects\, HOW TO: Oh\, look at me\, an act of intersemiotic translation. The words / commas / syntax of Martin Jackson’s poem ‘No Rothko’ have been translated into the metal / bolts / corners of Gonzalez’s installation. The poem is taken from Jackson’s open-source poetry collection: www.tutorials.fyi. Written and shared in Google Docs\, readers are invited to comment and edit on the poems. The collection is always completing\, never completed. The invitation in this show is to see Gonzalez’s work in a similar light\, as open-source installation. The work only becomes itself through us within it; we are the figuration. This exhibition is on view in the Main Gallery from April 3 – June 13\, 2020.\nAbout the Artist: GeoVanna Gonzalez is a Miami/Berlin-based artist. Interested in producing alternative environments\, her work explores the connections between private and public spaces through interventionist and participatory art\, new forms of collaboration and deliberate collectivity.
