DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, November 30th through Saturday\, December 4th from 9am – 4pm you are invited to celebrate the de la Cruz Collection 2021-2022 Exhibition\, ‘There Is Always One Direction‘\, bringing together paintings\, sculptures\, and site-specific installations from the de la Cruz private collection. The title of this year’s exhibition is taken from Gabriel Orozco’s sculpture Four Bicycles (There Is Always One Direction)\, 1994\, currently exhibited on the third floor. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, December 4th from 12noon – 5pm NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale celebrates Art Basel/Miami Art Week and the exhibition The Art of Assemblage with an in-person and live stream event with artist\, musician\, and educator Lonnie Holley. The artist’s improvisatory singing and piano playing will be accompanied by drummer Marlon Patton. A conversation between Holley and the Museum’s Bryant-Taylor Curator\, Ariella Wolens follows. This event is FREE & Open to the Public. RSVP HERE. \nNSU Art Museum is partnering with various community organizations to host a variety of workshops and performances as part of the Community Voices Series\, NSU Art Museum’s new initiative supported by the Community Foundation of Broward\, that focuses on exploring social and racial inequalities and challenging social structures\, including representation in museums. \nLonnie Holley (b. Birmingham\, AL\, 1950) lives and works in Atlanta\, Georgia. His work is represented in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, New York\, NY; Whitney Museum of American Art\, New York\, NY; Los Angeles County Museum of Art\, Los Angeles\, CA; and Smithsonian American Art Museum\, Washington\, D.C.\, among many other museums. Selections of his work have been featured in institutional group exhibitions including at the Philadelphia Museum of Art\, Philadelphia\, PA (2020); Metropolitan Museum of Art\, New York\, NY (2018); MASS MoCA\, North Adams\, MA (2017); de Young Museum\, San Francisco\, CA (2017); Austin Museum of Art\, Austin\, TX (2006); Birmingham Museum of Art\, Birmingham\, AL (2003); New Orleans Museum of Art\, New Orleans\, LA (1993); among many others. Holley’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions including the Parrish Art Museum\, Water Mill\, NY (2021); Atlanta Contemporary Art Center\, Atlanta\, GA (2017); Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art; Charleston\, SC (2015); Birmingham Museum of Art\, Birmingham\, AL (2004). Holley has been the subject of several documentary films\, and his own directed short film I Snuck Off the Slave Ship\, premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2018.

The event will take place in the heart of Wynwood at the beautiful PopLove Gelato Garden\, where guests will enjoy a Dog-inspired Art exhibition and handmade products just in time for the holidays! This unique project promotes culture\, art\, a love for pets\, time with family\, local vendors promotion\, and an inclusive pet-friendly option during the Miami Art Week. The exhibition features the work of artists: Spaint\, Lorena Cora photographer\, Natalia Tamayo and La Josefa Deco.
