The program is structured around project-based work that strengthens creative thinking\, spatial understanding\, and the ability to communicate design ideas. \nStudents will also develop material for a portfolio\, documenting their work throughout the workshop. Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara will join the opening program in person to discuss his work and the events documented in the film. \nScholars and special guests will further examine the historical\, cultural\, and political context surrounding both documentaries.

Mundo Arte presents The Shape of Feeling: Abstraction as Material\, System\, and Sensation\, a curated group exhibition on view from August 8 through August 22\, 2026. \nIn The Shape of Feeling\, abstraction becomes a language for material\, memory\, rhythm\, perception\, and lived experience. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, August 14th through Monday\, August 31st art collectors and art lovers are invited to experience Mapiti Spirit Forms\, an online exhibition presented by Artgal.Online via Artsy\, featuring five selected sculptures by Zimbabwean sculptor Sampson Kuvenguhwa. View the exhibition HERE. \nMapiti Spirit Forms explores the evolution of Kuvenguhwa’s distinctive Mapiti sculptural language and its development toward his later celebrated Dry Tree forms. The exhibition brings together five selected sculptures from the 1990s and 2000s\, offering an intimate glimpse into a much larger body of work created by the Zimbabwean artist. \nKuvenguhwa developed his Mapiti style through close observation of people and everyday life\, transforming human gestures and recognizable forms into distinctive sculptural compositions. Figures appear to rest\, bend\, embrace\, protect\, or turn inward\, while carefully carved openings and voids introduce an intriguing relationship between the physical and spiritual worlds. \nAcross the 1990s and 2000s\, Kuvenguhwa continued evolving this visual language\, increasingly connecting the human figure with organic structures and ideas of nature\, ancestry\, endurance\, and spiritual presence. Join the Museum of Art and Design’s Consulting Curator\, Isabela Villaneuva in conversation with Khadijah Cypress for MOAD Talks. This Event is Free & Open to the Public | RSVP HERE. \nKhadijah Cypress is a tribal member from The Miccosukee Tribe. She is Bird Clan and the mother of two boys. She works at the school on the reservation as a cultural and crafting teacher. She runs a cultural center on a volunteer basis outside of the school. She has been sewing cultural attire since she was 14 years old. Since picking up a pair of scissors and sitting at an industrial sewing machine\, she has accomplished several things including sewing for the tribe’s fashion show and hosted the tribe’s fashion show twice. Her work was presented in an exhibition at the Pérez Art Museum from 2021 to 2022. \nThis conversation with Khadijah Cypress is presented in conjunction with the Museum of Art and Design’s exhibition Abstraction as Legacy. This exhibition features a work by painter Lloyd Kiva New who was also a fashion designer and was a co-founder of Institute of American Indian Arts. \nLight refreshments will be served.
