SUMMARY:PAMM: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, June 9th from 10am – 6pm experience the opening of ‘On the Horizon: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection’ at the Pérez Art Museum Miami. This exhibition explores the diverse cultural and emotional landscapes of recent Cuban Art. It presents a selection of works by Contemporary Cuban artists donated to the museum by Jorge M. Pérez\, the majority from a recent gift of over 160 pieces\, as well as works previously gifted to PAMM in 2012\, and several recent acquisitions. The selection includes multiple images of the horizon\, and these works serve to structure the conceptual framework of the exhibition. The diverse meanings placed on the horizon—which include it as a symbol of longing\, containment or desire—radiate across the additional works on view. Exhibition runs from June 9th\, 2017 through April 8th\, 2018.\nImage: Juan Carlos Alom\, Nacidos para ser libres (Born to be free)\, 2012 (detail). Collection Pérez Art Museum Miami\, gift of Jorge M. SUMMARY:'Gritty in Pink' Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 10th from 6-10pm experience Gritty in Pink at Bailey Contemporary Arts curated by Lisa Rockford and Megan Castellon. Defying the traditional notion that pink represents delicate\, saccharine depictions of femininity\, the artists in this exhibition embrace subversive uses of the color. Pink is instead presented to embody strength through bold and often confrontational aesthetics\, whether through abstraction with aggressive textures and brushwork\, or through conceptual\, humorous\, ironic\, or subversive and symbolic imagery. The artworks will encompass creative and clever uses of the color. This exhibition features 50+ artists\, and will be on view through July 14\, 2017.
