Through thoughtful layering and mindful making\, participants will create poetic visual compositions that invite curiosity\, reflection\, and personal meaning. Enjoy an afternoon with The Assel Jean-Pierre Trio at the Little Haiti Cultural Center\, the performance will be set against the backdrop of Woosler Delisfort’s exhibition\, “SANCTUARY: Our Sacred Space.” \nThe Assel Jean-Pierre Trio is a dynamic jazz ensemble blending jazz\, Haitian\, gospel\, classical\, and contemporary influences into fresh\, engaging performances. Led by pianist Assel Jean-Pierre Jr.\, the trio creates memorable experiences through virtuosic musicianship\, soulful improvisation\, and heartfelt storytelling. View the exhibition HERE. \nMapiti Spirit Forms explores the evolution of Kuvenguhwa’s distinctive Mapiti sculptural language and its development toward his later celebrated Dry Tree forms. The exhibition brings together five selected sculptures from the 1990s and 2000s\, offering an intimate glimpse into a much larger body of work created by the Zimbabwean artist. \nKuvenguhwa developed his Mapiti style through close observation of people and everyday life\, transforming human gestures and recognizable forms into distinctive sculptural compositions. Figures appear to rest\, bend\, embrace\, protect\, or turn inward\, while carefully carved openings and voids introduce an intriguing relationship between the physical and spiritual worlds. \nAcross the 1990s and 2000s\, Kuvenguhwa continued evolving this visual language\, increasingly connecting the human figure with organic structures and ideas of nature\, ancestry\, endurance\, and spiritual presence. This Event is Free & Open to the Public | RSVP HERE. \nKhadijah Cypress is a tribal member from The Miccosukee Tribe. She is Bird Clan and the mother of two boys. She works at the school on the reservation as a cultural and crafting teacher. She runs a cultural center on a volunteer basis outside of the school. She has been sewing cultural attire since she was 14 years old. Since picking up a pair of scissors and sitting at an industrial sewing machine\, she has accomplished several things including sewing for the tribe’s fashion show and hosted the tribe’s fashion show twice. Her work was presented in an exhibition at the Pérez Art Museum from 2021 to 2022. \nThis conversation with Khadijah Cypress is presented in conjunction with the Museum of Art and Design’s exhibition Abstraction as Legacy. This exhibition features a work by painter Lloyd Kiva New who was also a fashion designer and was a co-founder of Institute of American Indian Arts. \nLight refreshments will be served. His coverage spans natural disasters\, immigration\, protest movements\, sporting events\, and more. Join Pérez Art Museum Miami’s (PAMM) Green Family Foundation Caribbean Cultural Institute (CCI) for a participatory culinary performance by Dominican artist David Pérez Karmadavis that explores the lived experience of migration through food\, memory\, and collective experience. \nPresented as part of Beyond Representation\, Edition 2\, Sustento Diario (Daily Sustenance) brings together cooking\, storytelling\, and the sharing of a communal meal. In collaboration with Chef Valeri Fuentes of Verde\, Karmadavis prepares dishes centered on the plantain—a staple across the Caribbean and Latin America and a familiar ingredient in Miami’s diasporic communities. \nScreened at PAMM for the first time\, a video-performance shows the artist carrying a bunch of green plantains through the city—a simple yet powerful gesture that evokes the memories\, traditions\, and lived experiences that migrants bring with them across borders. \nEvery recipe preserves stories\, gestures\, and ancestral knowledge passed from one generation to the next. Guests are encouraged to bring a favorite family or cultural recipe to contribute to a collective archive of memories\, traditions\, and flavors\, making the experience one we create together. \nThroughout the night\, enjoy an extended happy hour (5–9pm) and a live vinyl DJ set by Jesús Rodríguez (Rum and Coke).
