DESCRIPTION:Friday\, January 10th from 7-9pm experience an Art Conversation of Filling in the Background featuring artists Tomas Esson and Gean Moreno at Fredric Snitzer Gallery. The exhibition is on view through January 19\, 2020. You are cordially invited to a conversation about Tomas Esson’s current solo exhibition at the gallery with Gean Moreno\, Director of the Art + Research Center at ICA Miami. Please RSVP to rsvp@snitzer.com\n  \nTomas Esson was born in Havana\, Cuba\, in 1963. After graduating from the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana in 1987\, his work was showcased in a number of controversial exhibitions and he became a central figure in the decade’s renaissance in Cuban art. In 1990\, he left Cuba and has lived in Miami and New York City\, where his work continues to earn international acclaim. His paintings are in the collections of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes\, Havana; The Whitney Museum of American Art\, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art\, San Diego; Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst\, Aachen\, Germany; and Museo de Arte Contemporaneo\, Monterrey\, Mexico\nGean Moreno is Director of the Art + Research Center at ICA Miami. He is also part of the institution’s curatorial team and has worked on exhibitions dedicated to Hélio Oiticica\, Terry Adkins\, Larry Bell\, Ettore Sottsass\, and Paulo Nazareth. He was on the Advisory Board of the 2017 Whitney Biennial and serves as co-director of [NAME] Publications. He has contributed texts to various catalogues and publications\, including e-flux journal\, Kaleidoscope\, and Art in America. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, January 10th from 7:30 – 9pm National YoungArts Foundation welcomes you to the YoungArts campus for the exhibition opening of the 2020 YoungArts Finalists in Design\, Photography and Visual Arts.\nThe National YoungArts Foundation’s signature program\, National YoungArts Week\, welcomes more than 170 YoungArts Finalists to Miami. A life-changing experience that supports young artists (ages 15–18 years or grades 10–12) in the visual\, literary\, and performing arts\, this program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and offers unparalleled guidance to prepare for a career in the arts. Throughout the week\, these promising artists work with master teachers in their field to share their talents with the public at New World Center and the YoungArts Campus.\nPrior to the exhibition opening\, enjoy Writers’ Readings at 6:30pm.
