SUMMARY:Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC presents TO WRITE MIAMI: A Reading With Fabienne Josaphat
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, May 15th from 7:30 – 9pm the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC presents TO WRITE MIAMI: A Reading With Fabienne Josaphat. To Write Miami is a series of eight readings that explore the city’s fascinating relationship with literature. The series demonstrates how writers pay homage to Miami and how\, in turn\, Miami feeds their creativity. Each reading will include performative elements\, along with reflections on how the writing process often begins before words are even placed on the page. This event is FREE & Open to the Public\, RSVP here.\nFabienne Josaphat is the author of Dancing in the Baron’s Shadow\, a debut novel released by Unnamed Press and published in French by Calmann-Levy. Her essay\, “Summer is an Empty House\,” recently made the Notable Essays mentions in Best American Essays 2016. Her fiction\, non-fiction and poetry have been featured in The Master’s Review\, Grist Journal\, Damselfly\, Hinchas de Poesia\, Off the Coast Journal\, and The Caribbean Writer\, as well as in Eight Miami Poets\, a Jai-Alai Books poetry anthology. She lives in South Florida and is currently at work on a second novel.

SUMMARY:Twin Flames: A Solo-Exhibition by Justin Aversano
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 18th from 7-11pm experience the opening reception for Twin Flames\, a solo exhibition by Justin Aversano at Superchief Gallery New York. “For ‘Twin Flames‘ I photographed 100 sets of twins\, aiming to create body of work focused on the existence of multiple births and the phenomena of twindom through an immersive portrait survey. Twins and multiple siblings provide a lens on the magic and causality of biology. In our everyday society\, twins\, triplets et al. have an assigned position within all current and historical cultures—a shared tulpa of genetics\, fate and timing. Twindom has a deep root in shared storytelling\, its visuals conjure metatextual manifestations across the astrological\, the mythological\, the academic and the popular\, stringing together tangents of the everyday and simultaneously karmic. By using three formats of film Polaroid\, 120mm\, and 4×5 by focusing on the simple idea of seeking an “intentional phenomenology” by direct image making\, I can facilitate a broad and reflexive photographic engagement that is about these unique individuals and their presence in our collective nature.”\n  \nImage: Justin Aversano\, Twin Flames\, Gilli & Ali.
