DESCRIPTION:Friday\, February 3rd at 6pm join us at de la Cruz Collection for a lecture with Walead Beshty. Enjoy a cocktail and dim-sum bar reception at 6pm and a lecture at 7pm\, featuring Walead Beshty – a British-born artist and writer best known for his work in photography and sculpture\, although his bodies of work span a large variety of media. Often addressing labor\, bodies and networks in relation to art objects and their production\, his work moves beyond the traditional confines of medium to create a rigorous and diverse artistic practice. These thematics extend into his large body of writing and curatorial projects\, which span the last fifteen years. In conjunction with the exhibition Regeneration Series: Anselm Kiefer from the Hall Collection\, which addresses issues of identity and the convergence of history and mythology during post-World War II\, Levitt will examine the long-term effects of the war in Germany. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, February 24th at 12pm join us at Florida International University’s Department of Art + Art History on Lincoln Road for FIU’s Miami Beach Urban Studios (MBUS) ‘Social Practice Art: Brown Bag Talks’\, featuring Laurencia Strauss as she challenges and confronts notions of interdependence. Through her site and socially based practice\, she investigates vulnerabilities and ingenuities of people and the places they inhabit. Paradoxes and system thinking influence her inquiries across art\, craft and design. As a queer mixture of Argentinian and southern US cultures coupled with growing up in the ecologically sensitive\, tourist gazing city of Miami\, Strauss is predisposed to seek these indeterminate complexities.
