Showcasing fibers works from 81 artists responding to “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes\, and “Chi-Raq” by Spike Lee\, this exhibition explores\, through unity\, the possibility for change. This exhibition is on view from October 11 through December 20\, 2024. Learn more & view works from this exhibition on ARTSY. \n“Going through the artworks that make the frieze\, the artists have all approached the primary source of the play and adapted its message to compliment their intent. Playing with the reliance of opposites on one another for balance\, Isabel Infante calls for a continuation of acceptance of the opposite – arguing that our differences are what makes a society\, but the key lies in acceptance and respect. Janet Mueller recreates and reinterprets elements both from the play and history exposing the timelessness of the problems facing the feminine.” co-curator Melanie Prapopoulos \n  \nJANET M. SUMMARY:The Contemporary Art Modern Project (The CAMP Gallery) presents an Artist Talk for ‘Pulling at The Threads of Social Discourse: We Got The Power’
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 23rd from 2 – 5pm experience a compelling Artist Talk at The Contemporary Art Modern Project (The CAMP Gallery). The Contemporary Art Modern Project is pleased to announce an Artist Talk for their annual fiber exhibition\, 77 Women Pulling at The Threads of Social Discourse\, FAMA and Guests: We Got The Power\, in conversation. This panel will feature artists Aida Tejada\, Atelierlustig\, and Adriana Carvalho\, whose work is currently on display at the gallery for Women Pulling at the Threads of Social Discourse. This Event is FREE & Open to the Public / RSVP HERE. \n“With Aida Tejada the focus is on “The Other\,” an often silent and unconsidered workforce of minority women harvesting crops for consumption. Atelierlustig’s additions to the frieze explores the idea of sorority and the collective energy of women banded together under one goal\, one ethic and the endless possibilities of change through a unified vision. Adriana Carvalho focuses on Vandana Shiva and the idea of protecting the world\, and consumer from the margins of big business.” \nAIDA TEJADA \nb. Dominican Republic \n“My response to the play is one of deep respect for the undeniable power embodied in “The Other.” I particularly honor the women from minority groups in underdeveloped nations who labor in the coffee harvest. These women are the backbone of their families\, providing financial support while balancing their children’s education and household duties. Through their tireless work\, they silently contribute to their country’s economy\, a reality shared by countless women worldwide.” \n  \nImage: Tacit Agreement\, 2024.
