SUMMARY:ICA Miami presents Donald Judd: Paintings
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 5th at 7pm enjoy a cocktail reception for the opening of Donald Judd: Paintings at the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (ICA Miami)\, which marks the first museum exhibition dedicated to 14 rarely exhibited or published paintings created by the pioneering artist from 1959 to 1961. Though Judd is commonly associated with large-scale sculptures\, he experimented in painting with surface\, form\, space\, and color\, as well as unique curved forms and patterns\, and his ideas about painting were central to informing the relationship between the representation of space and painting that is evident across his work.\n“Donald Judd: Paintings” is organized by ICA Miami and curated by Ellen Salpeter\, ICA Miami Director; Alex Gartenfeld\, Deputy Director and Chief Curator; and Flavin Judd\, Curator and Co-President of Judd Foundation. Admission is free with RSVP. Members are invited to join ICA Miami for special preview access at 6pm.\nImage: Donald Judd\, untitled\, 1960. Oil on canvas. SUMMARY:Museum of Art and Design at MDC presents Tino Sehgal
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 7th from 1-8pm experience the opening of Tino Sehgal: This Situation at MDC Museum of Art and Design. Tino Sehgal creates works that are constructed situations which question the traditional subject-object relationship of visual art\, and in which the interaction between the visitor and the work takes a central position. Sehgal takes language\, singing\, dancing\, and other modes of behavior as his artistic material\, often generating immersive artworks that are felt more than they are seen. This Situation (2007) enables a conversation that throws into question our self-image as a society and our roles as individuals within that society.\nSehgal is a Berlin-based artist whose work has been widely shown internationally. He won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2013. Among many other places\, Sehgal’s work has been exhibited at the Guggenheim in New York\, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris\, the 12th Havana Biennial\, and the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo in Brazil.\nThis Situation is part of the Living Together Performance Series\, a year-long cross-disciplinary series featuring performance art\, installations\, film and video screenings\, readings\, talks\, and workshops\, reflecting the cultural\, social\, and political realities of how we live now. The exhibition will be on view through April 29\, 2018.\nExhibition on View During Museum Hours:\nWednesdays–Fridays\, 1:00 – 6:00 PM; Saturdays\, 1:00–8:00 PM; Sundays\, 1:00 – 6:00 PM\nImage: Tino Sehgal by Asad Raza\, 2016.

SUMMARY:In Process: Homecoming with Ernest Baker and Kayla Briët
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 7th from 7-9pm join us at the ARC in Opa-Locka when National YoungArts Foundation presents HOME by Ernest Baker (2009 Winner in Dance & U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts)\, an experimental documentary film that explores the artist’s journey from boyhood to manhood in his hometown of Miami\, Florida. Dances and hymns are captured by filmmaker Kayla Briët (2016 Winner in Cinematic Arts) to portray Baker’s growing pains as well as a longing for a much less ephemeral home—Heaven. Ernest and Kayla will be accompanied by multi-intrumentalist Christian Reátegui as the official film composer who will live-score the dance film on Saturday. FREE / RSVP here.\nIn Process: Homecoming is an artist residency dedicated to interdisciplinary collaboration. Providing a Miami-born alumnus/a with the time\, space and resources to create work\, this program encourages them to recruit other alumni outside of Miami to participate\, experiment and innovate. At the conclusion of the residency\, the artists showcase their work in the neighborhood where they grew up or feel most connected to\, further expanding YoungArts’ programs into communities throughout the city.

SUMMARY:Emerson Dorsch presents Brookhart Jonquil: Endless Light in and Endless Night
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, April 25th from 5-10pm join us for a reception for artist Brookhard Jonquil at Emerson Dorsch. Jonquil’s next exhibition at Emerson Dorsch will explore the continuous cycles of expansion and rest that seem to be found in everything which changes through time. His sculptures take this dynamic as both the essential human drama\, and as our essential refuge from it. In the same way that a work of architecture shelters and becomes alive with the activity that fills it\, these works are perceptual environments that hold a continuous transformation of light and space. Exhibition will be on  view through May 25\, 2018.
