Guests of Ingrid Schindall’s Dabble Class will pore over a bookbinding technique that has stood the test of time: almost 2\,000 years. In this workshop students will learn a 6\,000-year-old bookbinding technique with Ingrid Schindall of IS Projects. Coptic binding leaves the spine of the book exposed\, showing off all the hard work put into its sewing. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, August 21st from 12noon-1:30pm join us at the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale for Art Roundtable featuring Miami-based cultural practitioner Onajide Shabaka\, the artist will discuss his experiences in the Suriname forests during his cultural exchange and independent residency in 2017. Shabaka’s practice investigates the botanical form and physical and chemical properties of cultivated and foraged plants. While exploring foraging more closely\, his practice took on a greater meaning within the context of the African diaspora and Amerindigenous peoples\, and influenced a new language in his current series of works.\nThis event is free for museum members; $10 non-members. SUMMARY:PAMM Gallery Performance: Yelkaanenh T'eede Gaay
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, August 23rd at 7pm enjoy at Gallery Performance at the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Yełkaanenh T’eede Gaay (Dawn Twilight Girl-Child) was conceived in a college dance composition class at New World School of the Arts by dancer-choreographer Enrique Villacreses as a solo performance for Kashia Kancey. The title translates to Dawn Twilight Girl-Child\, and references the 2010 archaeological discovery of two Alaskan infants whose presence\, more than 11\,500 years ago\, points to issues of migration and a shared Native American lineage.\nThe performance will take place at 7pm and 8pm.
