SUMMARY:Mindy Solomon Gallery presents Shai Yehezkelli
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, March 2nd from 6-9pm experience the Opening Reception of Shai Yehezkelli’s solo exhibition ‘Maarava‘. Mindy Solomon Gallery is proud to introduce to the United States the solo exhibition debut of Tel Aviv-based artist Shai Yehezkelli.\nHe was born in Jerusalem in 1979 and resides in Tel Aviv. Raised as an Orthodox Jew\, Yehezkelli no longer practices at that level of observance\, but continues to be fascinated by the objects associated with ritual practice. The title of Shai’s show\, Maarava\, means Westward. The West signifying an opportunity to disconnect from the intensity of continued introspection that is the plight of the artist\, compounded by living in the fish bowl of Israel and the Middle East. His work is very much about identity and place\, and the ongoing search for a sense of home in the world. Yehezkelli’s paintings often reflect a humorous irony. The kind of effect one experiences when receiving joyous news tinged with sorrow. Deeply mystical and gestural\, some images feel like simple sketches while others are heavily impasto paintings with multiple layers. Moving and sentimental\, Yehezkelli invites the viewer to experience a multiplicity of emotions much like a visit to the holy land.

SUMMARY:Cheryl Maeder at the Doral Contemporary Art Museum: Women of Vision
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, March 8th at 6pm experience the Opening Reception of Women of Vision group exhibition at Doral Contemporary Art Museum featuring internationally collected visual artist and filmmaker Cheryl Maeder\, exhibiting Submerge I\, 1/10. The Doral Contemporary Art Museum brings together a combination of talented female artists working in photography\, painting\, drawing\, sculpture and printmaking in celebration of International Women’s Day.\nThe Submerge Series explores the relationship human beings have with the environment. The human body contains 70% of water fluids and the oceans waters cover more than 70% of the Earth itself. Water represents our connectedness to the Earth and to each other. Submerge is the courage and willingness to take the leap into the depths of the Waters of the Soul. Unexpected perspectives and vividly vivacious color come together in Cheryl Maeder’s photographs. Fascinated by coastal living\, Maeder creates pensively dreamy images of being at the beach. Exotic with haze\, and tranquilly peaceful\, Maeder’s photographs are impressionistic visions of where ocean meets land.\nImage: Cheryl Maeder’s Submerge I\, 1/10.
