The artist will be onsite for tours from 3-5pm on: Saturday\, April 3; Wednesday\, April 21; and Saturday\, May 15. Free and open to the public\, select a date & 30 minute timeslot / RSVP here.\nAppointments are recommended\, walk-ins are welcome as capacity permits; visitor capacity is limited to 10 people at a time; visitors are required to wear a facial covering per City of Miami Emergency Order 20-16 and are subject to a contactless temperature screening upon entry; entrance may be denied for noncompliance.\nMAIN GALLERY: GeoVanna Gonzalez: HOW TO: Oh\, look at me\nHOW TO: Oh\, look at me\, a new site-specific installation by Miami and Berlin-based artist GeoVanna Gonzalez\, functions as the fifth iteration of the artist’s ongoing HOW TO series\, in which Gonzalez creates works of art to accompany poems featured in the online open-source poetry collection tutorials by Martin Jackson at www.tutorials.fyi. The project serves as a physical embodiment of Martin Jackson’s poem No Rothko\, creating an immersive environment that captures the metaphysical experience of viewing a Rothko painting and sharing this experience as a collective activity. HOW TO: Oh\, look at me expresses Gonzalez’s deep commitment to creating provocative\, participatory social spaces within institutional settings. As acts of queer infiltration and class-aware interventionism\, her work asks the viewer to see and explore\, to dance and read out loud the potential of our embodied cognition.\nLearn more – GeoVanna Gonzalez: HOW TO: Oh\, look at me\nAlso on view:\nPROJECT ROOM I & II: Disembodied guest curated by Dennis Scholl\nLocust Projects presents Disembodied\, the third in a series of guest curated video exhibitions in Locust Projects’ Screening Room that launched in fall 2019. SUMMARY:The Bass presents Small Talk with Susan Philipsz
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 11th from 12 – 1pm The Bass presents Small Talk with Susan Philipsz. Join in on Zoom as the museum introduces and gets to know the voices\, faces and minds behind works currently on view and in The Bass collection.\nSusan Philipsz’s (b. 1965\, Scotland) work deals with the spatial properties of sound and with the relationships between sound and architecture. She is particularly interested in the emotive and psychological properties of sound and how it can be used as a device to alter individual consciousness. Using sound as a medium in public spaces\, Philipsz’s site–specific installations trigger an awareness in the listener and temporarily alter their perception of themselves in a particular place and time.\nSusan Philipsz\, Too Much I Once Lamented\, 2019\, Five Channel sound installation\, Dimensions variable\, Edition of 3. SUMMARY:WYN 317: 'Contemporary Nostalgia' Opening Reception by Word To Mother
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, April 16th from 6-9pm WYN 317 Gallery is proud to announce the debut solo exhibition “Contemporary Nostalgia” by artist Word To Mother. Guests are invited to experience the Opening Reception\, sponsored by Deep Eddy Vodka. The exhibition is a collection of new works featuring 30 framed pieces and a bronze sculpture\, from English based artist Word To Mother\, which features black and white illustrations of characters reminiscent of early animations from the 1930’s and 40’s. This event is free & open to the public\, please RSVP HERE.\nOld cartoons have always provided inspiration for WTM and have appeared frequently within his compositions and works. This show sees the emphasis of singular characters to evoke the honesty\, humour and joy of the human spirit.\nIn a time of increasing complexities in design and application\, abundant resources that are readily available and often times wasteful\, WTM chooses to favour raw earth based materials. Reused vintage paper and Bronze form the foundations of this considered body of work that emits the positivity\, kindness and playfulness of life. Using paper from as early as 1890\, WTM continues his long standing relationship with found and textured surfaces\, each piece having its own beautifully unique aged patina.\nThe marriage of classic characters on surfaces from the same era gives these new works a nostalgic feeling that perhaps they have existed for years and have just been discovered.

SUMMARY:Locust Projects presents Meet the Artist Tours: GeoVanna Gonzalez
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, April 21st from 3-5pm Locust Projects invites you to meet the artist\, GeoVanna Gonzalez\, and view her new large-scale site-specific installation\, HOW TO: Oh\, look at me. The artist will be onsite for tours from 3-5pm on: Wednesday\, April 21; and Saturday\, May 15.
