SUMMARY:PAMM presents ARTiculating Sustainability: Resilience in the Climate Crisis?
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 14th from 11am – 2pm the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) invites you to a symposium presented by IKT Miami in collaboration with IKT\, the International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art\, ARTiculating Sustainability brings together diverse artists\, curators\, and writers to consider the role that art and visual culture can play in changing public perception of pressing climate change issues. The symposium features T.J. Demos\, an art historian\, critic\, and curator internationally recognized for his study of how artists and activists navigate global crises\, including biopolitical conflicts around ecology\, sustainability and climate change\, who will give the keynote address. There will be additional presentations and conversations along with ambient art experiences will include Felice Grodin‘s Invasive Species; Laurencia Strauss‘s The Bubble Pops\, an interactive installation that connects memory and possible futures; appearances of The Climate Crusader\, AKA Alexander Zastera; and more.\nARTiculating Sustainability is the main public event of the 2019 IKT Congress\, being held in the United States for the first time in the Association’s 45-year history.\n\n  \nImage: Cara Despain’s\, ‘Sea Unseen’\, 2016. SUMMARY:NSU Art Museum: Second Saturday Film Series 'Laces'
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 14th from 1:30 – 4pm join NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale and the David Posnack JCC for an afternoon of art and film. The museum and cafe open at noon. Enjoy a docent-led tour of Remember to React that highlights West African art at 1:30pm. The tour will be followed by a screening of Laces at 2:30pm. This Israeli film tells the story of a complicated relationship between an aging father and his adult\, special-needs son whom he abandoned as a small boy. Through its portrayal of a relationship full of love\, rejection and co-dependency\, it illuminates and questions the importance of human life and human connection. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 14th at 5pm enjoy Curator Culture at The Bass featuring Sheila Hicks\, Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee. Moderated by writer and activist Tom Healy\, Curator Culture presents a series of conversations centered around a universal question – what is really worth our time to look at\, listen to\, touch\, taste or talk about? The series aims to bring together unexpected pairings of artists\, engineers\, musicians\, writers\, chefs\, gamers\, political activists\, art curators\, athletes and others who influence the way we look at and experience the world. Curator Culture is presented thanks to a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation\, as part of its Knight Arts Challenge.\nPlease plan to visit the museum and exhibition first\, prior to the event. The museum will close promptly at the end of the talk.
