SUMMARY:De la Cruz Collection: Alex Israel Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 6th at 6pm enjoy a cocktail reception and art lecture at the de la Cruz Collection with Los Angeles-based artist Alex Israel. Deeply entwined with his hometown\, his work explores popular media\, Hollywood\, and the cult of celebrity\, while positing LA as central to an understanding of American culture and the American dream. Cocktail Reception at 6pm\, Lecture at 7pm. This Event is Free & Open to the Public\, RSVP is required.\nIsrael’s practice has included high-profile collaborations with Bret Easton Ellis\, Louis Vuitton\, Rimowa and Snapchat\, as well as his own Freeway Eyewear and Infrathin Apparel designs. His ongoing web series\, an LA-centric talk show hosted by the artist and titled As It Lays\, is streaming on YouTube\, and his feature length art film\, SPF-18\, is now streaming on Netflix\, following a tour to high schools across the United States.\nHis work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at: Le Consortium\, Dijon; Nasher Sculpture Center\, Dallas; The Huntington Library\, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens\, San Marino\, California; Astrup Fearnley Museum\, Oslo and Fosun Foundation\, Shanghai (forthcoming). SUMMARY:PAMM Free Community Night: Coral City Camera
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 6th from 6-10pm join Bas Fisher Invitational (BFI)\, Bridge Initiative\, and the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) for the premiere of Coral Morphologic’s Coral City Camera\, a publicly accessible 360-degree livestream of a thriving\, urban coral reef community\, visible from a billboard floating in Biscayne Bay. In conjunction with the floating livestream\, National Geographic Explorer\, filmmaker\, and Ph.D. student Alizé Carrère will moderate a panel discussion featuring NOAA scientist Dr. Ian Enochs and the Coral Morphologic artist/scientist duo Colin Foord and J.D. McKay. The evening will continue on the terrace with a celebration\, a live set by DJ Romulo Del Castillo\, and drink specials all within sight of the Ballyhoo boat\, a floating billboard\, that will anchor at PAMM’s beach\, bringing the public a rare glimpse of what lies beneath the surface.\nThis Event is Free & Open to the Public\, RSVP here.
