Art Crawl was inspired by a group of local businesses whom wish to drive more traffic to their block of downtown Delray. Launching in conjunction with The First Friday Art Walk\, Art Crawl welcomes the community to experience downtown Delray as a center for art. Art Crawl begins at The DeBilzan Gallery located at 38 E. Atlantic Avenue and guides attendees to the six participating business for chances to win prizes and merchandise coupons. In addition to visiting the participating businesses\, Art Crawl will feature live music on the grounds of Old School Square provided by Tin Roof\, and a cash bar with light bites inside The Cornell Art Museum.\nShowcasing the work of William DeBilzan for its September Spotlight Exhibition\, the Cornell Art Museum will be open and free for the public to enjoy during Art Crawl. For nomadic artist Glexis Novoa\, the condition of the immigrant relates to the Cankama Sutta\, a Buddhist rule or discourse about walking meditation. The study and practice of Buddhist teachings\, originally learned as a child from his mother in Cuba\, is a thread that runs throughout Novoa’s life and art. Novoa will join curator Gean Moreno in conversation at the Freedom Tower\, where Novoa’s exhibition\, Cankama Sutta\, is currently on view in the Cuban Legacy Gallery. Novoa and Moreno will discuss the artist’s spiritual journey and meditation practice\, reflecting on how this study has influenced his artistic development. This Event is Free and Open to the Public. RSVP here.\n  \nAbout the Panelists\nBorn in Holguín\, Cuba\, Glexis Novoa received a B.A. from The National School of Art in Havana. He has worked in painting\, performance\, and installation\, and has become internationally recognized for his site-specific graphite wall drawings. Since the late 1980s\, his work has been widely exhibited in the United States and around the world. Novoa lives and works in Miami and Havana.\nGean Moreno is the Director of the Art + Research Center at ICA Miami. He is also part of the institution’s curatorial team and has worked on exhibitions dedicated to Hélio Oiticica\, Terry Adkins\, Larry Bell\, Ettore Sottsass\, and Paulo Nazareth. He was on the Advisory Board of the 2017 Whitney Biennial and serves as co-director of [NAME] Publications. He has contributed texts to various catalogues and publications\, including e-flux journal\, Kaleidoscope\, and Art in America. This summer\, Verso published In the Mind But Not From There: Real Abstraction and Contemporary Art—an anthology that Moreno edited.

DESCRIPTION:Friday\, September 27th at 7pm Oolite Arts wants you to come celebrate the final days of “It will never become quite familiar to you” with a screening\, conversation and a family-style dinner at Supplement Projects. Natalia Lasalle-Morillo’s film holguín\, hialeah documents the journey of Alvis Hecheverría\, an 81-year-old woman who decides to leave Cuba and move to Hialeah after the passing of her husband. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Lasalle-Morillo and Hecheverría.\nCulinary experience by The BLCK Family. This Event is Free and Open to the Public. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, September 27th from 8-9:30pm in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month\, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is thrilled to present an expanded event as part of its Jazz at MOCA series. Guests will enjoy a night of jazz with a performance by singer Leslie Cartaya\, a panel discussion and O\, Miami.\nMOCA will present an electric performance by singer Leslie Cartaya series who will be joined by lively salsa dancers as part of its monthly “Jazz at MOCA” series. Cartaya was born in Cuba and grew up enjoying of musical improvisation with her family. Traditional Cuban music runs in Cartaya’s veins\, and jazz and American funk have shaped her artistic expression. Cartaya vocalizes Caribbean\, Afro-American\, Afro-Latin and Latin American musical rhythms to create a harmonious fusion. Singing is Cartaya’s therapy – at an early age\, she learned to express her joys\, passions\, sadness and melancholic moments through her music.\nO\, Miami will be reciting Zip Odes and promoting community engagement through poetry readings and writings during the course of the evening. Guests will have the opportunity to indulge in a pop up picnic patio featuring some of South Florida’s favorite food trucks and enjoy a full bar provided by Café Crème. Starting at 4pm\, venture out to Collins Park to enjoy programming from the Collins Park Neighborhood Association and Global Arts Project\, including an artisan market\, pop-up park\, salsa lessons with Adora and a performance by Tito Puente Jr.\nA free\, monthly IDEAS program created to engage families with children of all ages in activities that encourage conversation\, exploration and experimentation through art. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 29th at 4pm MOAD presents a series of public programs related to its current exhibition\, Where the Oceans Meet. Rather than a formal sit-down lecture\, MOAD presents engaging\, conversational\, and scholarly exhibition tours lead by a wide array of interdisciplinary experts. While pointing to specific art work and archival material on view\, Tsang sparks a conversation on “The Hidden Cabrera\,” highlighting Cabrera’s biography and research methods. This Event is Free and Open to the Public\, RSVP here.\nWhere the Oceans Meet is an exhibition of modern and contemporary art that resonates with the pioneering thought of two Caribbean writers\, Lydia Cabrera and Édouard Glissant. The show is comprised of an international group of artists and collectives consider notions of shifting and porous borders—and how crossing borders has shaped our world. They articulate various aspects of the two scholars’ thoughts on race\, diaspora\, colonialization\, creolization\, language\, and territory\, particularly with regards to Miami’s position in a world that never stops turning. Where the Oceans Meet will be on view until January 12\, 2020.
