DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 11th from 12 Noon – 1:30pm NSU Art Museum presents Creativity Exploration: Mindful Monsters. Inspired by the vibrant\, surreal sculptures and illustrations of Yu Maeda\, participants will create their own imaginative creature sculptures while engaging in mindfulness practices that center on reflection\, presence\, intuition\, symbolism\, and self-expression. RSVP HERE. \nCreativity Exploration adult workshops promote the benefits of material exploration and the mind-to-body experience. Studies have shown that 45 minutes of creative activity a day reduces stress and offers mental clarity and relaxation. In addition to producing a sense of well-being\, sessions expand participants’ perceptions of forms\, while increasing brain connectivity through visual and cognitive stimulation. The workshop is led by educator Lark Keeler\, a specialist in mindfulness education. \nPreregistration Required. The tour is focused on Hispanic and Latino artists in PAMM’s collection\, highlighting artists like Guadalupe Maravilla\, Ad Minoliti\, Zilia Sánchez\, and Teresita Fernández. After the tour\, enjoy happy hour specials at our waterfront restaurant Verde. FREE with RSVP. \n  \nAbout Thom Wheeler Castillo \nThom Wheeler Castillo lives and works in Miami\, FL. Interested in landscape\, environmentalism\, and ecosystems\, he works from an interdisciplinary approach entwining histories\, earth sciences\, and anthropology to espouse living through the anthropogenic era. Since 2021\, he’s embarked on cultural missions throughout the Caribbean region\, working with Curator Rosie Gordon-Wallace and the Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator’s International Cultural Exchanges (I.C.E). He is currently an Artist-In-Residence Studio Fellowship with DVCAI and a 2025 recipient of its Catalyst award. One-half of Collective Archival Feedback\, along with E. Milgrim\, he explores field work\, archives and sound composition. As an educator\, he works with various institutions throughout the region including HistoryMiami\, the Rubell Museum\, and the Miami Design District.
