The discussion will explore the role of natural dyes across Indigenous Latin American and Afro-Caribbean traditions and consider how these techniques continue to inform contemporary art practices. \nEusebio\, a Peruvian-Dominican textile artist based in Miami\, is currently featured in MOCA North Miami’s exhibition Field of Dreams. Her work examines color and cultural heritage through research into traditional dyeing methods and their connection to ancestral wisdom. Using Vicuña’s work within the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) collection as a conceptual anchor\, guests will intertwine past and present through textile creation. By transferring curated images onto fabric via the sublimation process\, turning technical execution into a symbolic gesture. Here\, memory isn’t just a recording—it is a material dialogue where personal experience is imprinted\, re-signified\, and transformed. \nAbout Lisu Vega\nArtist Bio Lisu Vega (b. 1980\, Miami\, FL) is a multidisciplinary artist born in Miami and raised in Maracaibo\, Venezuela. Her practice spans engraving\, photography\, fiber and textile art\, sculpture\, and immersive installation\, exploring sustainability\, migration\, memory\, and identity through material-driven processes. \nAbout Marie Franco\nMarie Franco is a Peruvian-Venezuelan artist based in South Florida and is a 2024 alumna of New World School of the Arts\, where she earned a BFA in painting with a minor in art history. Her practice centers painting as a form of storytelling rooted in immigrant lived experience. Through portraiture and depictions of shared economic spaces\, particularly flea markets and swap shops\, she explores themes of migration\, labor\, commerce\, identity\, and community. These informal marketplaces function as sites of cultural exchange\, economic survival\, and belonging for working-class immigrant communities and are deeply connected to Franco’s personal history. After immigrating to the United States\, her mother worked as a vendor at the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop\, a space that continues to shape her practice. \n  \nFree with museum admission. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, March 22nd from 3 – 4pm the Boca Raton Museum of Art presents Renaissance Art Conversations – “A man within a woman”: Vittoria Colonna and Michelangelo’s Friendship. \nMichelangelo met the noble widow and poet Vittoria Colonna sometime in the late 1530s in Rome. An intense spiritual and intellectual relationship blossomed between the unlikely pair as they exchanged letters\, sonnets\, and drawings for nearly a decade until Colonna’s death in 1547. This talk will explore their relationship and the works of art that resulted from it as Michelangelo sought to honor the friend he called “A man within a woman.” \nDr. Emily Fenichel is Associate Professor of Art History at Florida Atlantic University. She is the author of Michelangelo’s Art of Devotion in the Age of Reform\, which was published by Cambridge University Press in 2023. She has also published articles on various aspects of Michelangelo’s life and career\, from the Pietà to the artist’s portrait medal. This panel talk will explore the evolution of net-art\, an avant-garde movement rooted in the open architecture of the internet and its complex\, often ambivalent relationship with NFTs and digital ownership. Net-art emerged with a radical premise in which art created on and for the internet should remain publicly accessible\, ephemeral\, and non-commodified. The discussion will take place in person for attending audiences\, with select panelists joining virtually as part of a hybrid format. His work focuses on virtual and physical public spaces\, XR\, and data visualization. Founder of the MUD Foundation Inc. in Miami (2017)\, established to support and develop tech-centered arts programs and lower barriers to accessing immersive technology in arts and education. Peraza’s work has been exhibited widely\, including at SIGGRAPH LA and the Pérez Art Museum. His work is in the permanent collections of the AGO Museum (CA) and the Jumex Collection (Mexico). He was awarded the Cannonball Wavemaker Grant and the Knight Arts + Tech Fellowship in 2021. \nVuk Ćosić\nFounding figure of net-art\, credited with coining the term “net.art” in the 1990s. Known for conceptual works such as ASCII remakes of blockbuster films and early browser interventions\, Ćosić has consistently critiqued technological hype and institutional commodification. He brings historical grounding and a philosophical perspective on net-art’s ethos of openness in contrast to NFT-driven scarcity. \nRhea Myers\nArtist\, hacker\, and writer originally from the UK and now based in British Columbia. Since 2014\, her practice has focused on blockchain as both medium and metaphor\, using raw transactions\, smart contracts\, and ERC-721 tokens to probe ownership\, property\, and the anxieties of digital control. Myers has exhibited internationally at venues including the ArtScience Museum (Singapore)\, Kunsthalle Zürich\, Sotheby’s London\, and Chronus Art Centre (Shanghai). \nModerator\nAriel Baron-Robbins\nInterdisciplinary artist and professor of animation at Florida International University. Creator of Loop Art Critique\, a metaverse-based\, anonymously juried residency for digital artists\, and curator of the Lynn NFT Museum at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus. She has organized panels and exhibitions including What to Call Digital Art Now? and Art on BRiC Walls\, bridging experimental practice with public discourse. \n
