This panelist lecture\, led by Marquese McFerguson\, featuring Edouard Duval-Carrie and Morel Doucet explores ideas surrounding Art and the African diaspora. Artists reflect on their work and their experiences navigating contemporary life as artists of African descent. This panel discussion provides a space for community discourse as it highlights topics of identity\, migration and race. This Event is Free & Open to the Public / RSVP HERE. \nNSU Art Museum is partnering with various community organizations on a variety of programs as part of the Community Voices Series\, NSU Art Museum’s new initiative supported by the Community Foundation of Broward\, that focuses on exploring social and racial inequalities and challenging social structures\, including representation in museums.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 26th from 4 – 5pm experience a live\, in-person art lecture at NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale\, Talking Walls – Narrative and Propaganda in Italian Renaissance Murals: a Rocky Ruggiero Lecture on Renaissance Painting. Join celebrated art historian Dr. Rocky Ruggiero as he explores the Renaissance roots of today’s street art. Discover how Renaissance painters transformed the walls of the churches\, palaces\, and streets of their day into visual platforms from which they could project religious\, social\, and political ideals. These ideals were expressed often in narratives\, as allegories or in historical subjects. This presentation will explore the evolution of mural paintings in medieval and early modern Italian art using the works of Giotto\, Michelangelo\, Raphael\, Botticelli\, and Fra Angelico. \nFree with Museum admission / RSVP HERE.
