SUMMARY:The University of Miami presents For Darby: A Retrospective Exhibition by George Bethea
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 13th from 6 – 9pm the University of Miami presents an Opening Reception\, For Darby: A Retrospective Exhibition by George Bethea\, at the University of Miami Gallery in Wynwood. For Darby is a survey exhibition of George Bethea’s paintings from 2006 through 2019 and is in honor of Walter Darby Bannard (September 23\, 1934 – October 2\, 2016). Over their 25 year friendship\, Bannard has championed Bethea’s paintings in numerous essays. Often stating that Bethea is one of the best painters of his generation. “At the same time that he is an innovator\, ahead of his time\, Bethea is an artist who belongs in spirit to earlier generations\, for whom art was as serious in intention as it was joyful in experience. Bethea’s paintings make us turn from our usual pictorial presumptions to more intensely see and feel.” For Darby will be on view from July 9 through July 28\, 2019.\n  \nGallery hours are Wednesday\, Thursday\, and Friday\, 10:00am to 6:00pm. *Hours may be subject to change\, please call (305) 284-3161 to confirm times. Appointments and Private Tours available. For more information contact Milly Cardoso\, Gallery Director at m.cardoso1@miami.edu.

SUMMARY:ICA Miami Lecture: Emily Eliza Scott
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, July 16th at 7pm the Institute of Contemporary Art\, Miami (ICA Miami) welcomes artist and scholar Emily Eliza Scott to the Art + Research Center for a new lecture entitled “Un-spectacularizing Climate Change”. From Scott: “Working against the spectacular nature of much climate change imagery\, this talk will consider critical practices by artists\, activists\, and others that highlight the extent to which climate change unfolds in ways that are often small\, slow\, invisible\, or even disguised—and thus far trickier to sense and represent”. Emily Eliza Scott is an interdisciplinary scholar\, artist\, and former park ranger focused on contemporary art and design practices that engage pressing (political) ecological issues\, often with the intent to actively transform real-world conditions. This event is FREE and Open to the Public\, RSVP here.\nImage: Emily Eliza Scott

SUMMARY:Artscape Lab presents Roberto Lombana: Yin & Yang
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, July 18th from 7-10pm enjoy the opening reception of Yin & Yang at Artscape Lab featuring Roberto Lombana. The sustainability of any process in time originates in the consciousness of the creator. It is the result of the complementarity that is generated when mixing opposites. This philosophy has been the starting point of this photographic series that Roberto Lombana presents to us in his exhibition Yin & Yang.\nWith this series\, Lombana takes us to reflect on topics such as the plea for love in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro in contrast to the presence of a sculpture about love in New York; or an infinite architectural image that alludes to M.C. Escher\, in contrast to an image of a mangrove in the Colombian Pacific where nature is infinite and thus presenting us with a diversity of topics such as Zen philosophy\, knowledge\, food\, highways and temples. This series is the result of photographs taken by Lombana during the last twelve years in different parts of the world\, which are composed of similar graphic elements and opposite concepts known as the YING & YANG. This event is FREE and Open to the Public.
