SUMMARY:Oolite Arts: Diego Gutierrez's 'Hypersensitive Romantic' Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, January 22nd from 7-9pm enjoy the Opening Reception of Diego Gutierrez’s first solo exhibition ‘Hypersensitive Romantic‘ at Oolite Arts. Experience a celebration of the opening of the first exhibition of the year and Diego Gutierrez’s first solo show\, curated by Amy Galpin. This Event is Free & Open to the Public\, RSVP here.\nIn his rigorous studio practice\, Diego Gutierrez questions the function of painting. Synthesizing varied art-historical approaches\, he pushes formal boundaries by tearing surfaces\, adding sculptural elements\, and reworking subject matter obsessively. Through this dedicated process\, he investigates the construction of meaning and ruminates on how his work exists in his studio versus in a public setting\, where it might be activated by viewers in unexpected ways.\n\n  \nBorn in Los Angeles in 1982\, Diego Gutierrez currently lives and works in Miami. He received his BFA from Cal State Fullerton in 2009 and a MFA in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. Gutierrez’s work has been included in multiple group exhibitions including ‘Welcome to Miami’ at The Fountainhead Residency\, Miami\, ‘Doers Doing’ at Gesamtkunst Werkshop\, Brooklyn\, N.Y.\, and ‘Spheres of Meaning: An Exhibition of Artists’ Books at the Frost Art Museum. Gutierrez is a studio resident at Oolite Arts.

SUMMARY:Steidel Contemporary: Lenore Rae Lampi at Art Palm Beach
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, January 30th through Monday\, February 3rd experience the work of artist Lenore Rae Lampi at the 23rd Edition of Art Palm Beach with Steidel Contemporary Booth 422. Art Palm Beach takes place at the Palm Beach County Convention Center\, it is the premier art fair in South Florida during the height of the Winter Season.\nLenore Rae Lampi has been associated with her biomorphic birch bark series for years but has recently moved seamlessly into a new arena of cultural commentary and pop-art influenced objects. In her latest Big Bling Series\, Lenore has embraced the forms of ribbons and bows\, essentially birch bark of another kind\, the outermost layer of cultural icons and nostalgic tendencies.\nAlways fascinated with the undulating forms in Classical drapery since the days of observing her mother’s workings as a seamstress\, Lenore now captures this movement and narrative with a Pop Art sensibility. Her new series explores the notion of adornment of the affordable kind. Ribbons\, bows\, and streamers in an historical context may evoke feelings of nostalgia\, kitsch\, and pomp. Referencing Pop Art to describe the work\, with the intention to monumentalize these humble objects. Lenore Rae Lampi’s current sculptural work has a bold narrative delineating the growing veneration of the female influence in American culture\, meanwhile arousing the nostalgic infatuation with the ‘good old days’ that so many Americans seem to want to relive.\n  \nDays & Times \nCOLLECTORS FIRST VIEW \nThursday\, January 30\, 2020 | 6 PM – 10 PM \nPublic Hours \nFriday\, January 31\, 2020 | 12 PM – 7 PM \nSaturday\, February 01\, 2020 | 12 PM – 7 PM \nSunday\, February 02\, 2020 | 12 PM – 6 PM \nMonday\, February 03\, 2020 | 12 PM – 6 PM
