Find the giant inflatable sculptures at a County park or library near you\, this first-of-its-kind public art project will bring pop-up art to the County’s 1.9 million residents\, with large-scale inflatable sculptures measuring up to 30 feet high. Spread over two months\, the exhibitions will be open to the public and will encourage audiences of all ages to socially engage with art and culture. This mini-course is taught by Carol Prusa\, Professor of Art at Florida Atlantic University\, and one of today’s masters of this technique. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 21st from 5-8pm experience the Opening Reception of Carlos Quintana’s exhibition\, The Diamond’s Shadow\, at Pan American Art Projects in Little River. The work of Carlos Quintana is the result of his mood. His world is his work\, and all of it is\, at the same time\, cumulative. Accurate separations between series or epochs are not possible in terms of the essential\, in each there is everything that comes out of itself. The only possible identification is given by the appearance of new elements\, which are added to the body as a branch to a tree\, literally. Another essential element of Carlos Quintana’s work is his condition as subject. He himself does not see his oils as paintings\, he sees them as a whole\, and that is why he stains everything: the frames\, the study\, himself. His work is also visceral\, as visceral is his attitude towards art\, and towards life. This exhibition is on view through November 14th\, 2019. The study and practice of Buddhist teachings\, originally learned as a child from his mother in Cuba\, is a thread that runs throughout Novoa’s life and art. Novoa will join curator Gean Moreno in conversation at the Freedom Tower\, where Novoa’s exhibition\, Cankama Sutta\, is currently on view in the Cuban Legacy Gallery. He has worked in painting\, performance\, and installation\, and has become internationally recognized for his site-specific graphite wall drawings. Since the late 1980s\, his work has been widely exhibited in the United States and around the world. Novoa lives and works in Miami and Havana.\nGean Moreno is the Director of the Art + Research Center at ICA Miami. He is also part of the institution’s curatorial team and has worked on exhibitions dedicated to Hélio Oiticica\, Terry Adkins\, Larry Bell\, Ettore Sottsass\, and Paulo Nazareth. He was on the Advisory Board of the 2017 Whitney Biennial and serves as co-director of [NAME] Publications. He has contributed texts to various catalogues and publications\, including e-flux journal\, Kaleidoscope\, and Art in America. This summer\, Verso published In the Mind But Not From There: Real Abstraction and Contemporary Art—an anthology that Moreno edited.

DESCRIPTION:Friday\, September 27th from 8-9:30pm in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month\, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is thrilled to present an expanded event as part of its Jazz at MOCA series. Guests will enjoy a night of jazz with a performance by singer Leslie Cartaya\, a panel discussion and O\, Miami.\nMOCA will present an electric performance by singer Leslie Cartaya series who will be joined by lively salsa dancers as part of its monthly “Jazz at MOCA” series. Cartaya was born in Cuba and grew up enjoying of musical improvisation with her family. Traditional Cuban music runs in Cartaya’s veins\, and jazz and American funk have shaped her artistic expression. Cartaya vocalizes Caribbean\, Afro-American\, Afro-Latin and Latin American musical rhythms to create a harmonious fusion. Singing is Cartaya’s therapy – at an early age\, she learned to express her joys\, passions\, sadness and melancholic moments through her music.\nO\, Miami will be reciting Zip Odes and promoting community engagement through poetry readings and writings during the course of the evening. Guests will have the opportunity to indulge in a pop up picnic patio featuring some of South Florida’s favorite food trucks and enjoy a full bar provided by Café Crème. Join AIRIE for a special Saturday in the Park and celebrate the closing of their current exhibit “Fragile” and National Public Lands Day in Everglades National Park. Fragile closes on Tuesday\, October 1\, 2019.\nAs official Volunteers in the Park\, AIRIE residents work with park rangers\, scientists and the public to create new and creative ways to experience and engage in one of our country’s most fragile resources – our wild\, public lands. For this special Saturday in the Park\, enjoy free admission not only to the AIRIE Nest Gallery to view the exhibition Fragile\, a multi-media exhibition exposing and examining the delicate fragility of the Everglades ecosystem\, but also enjoy free entrance to the park itself to explore the over 1.5 million acres of the country’s only subtropical wetland. (Park entrance fee normally $30 per vehicle.)\nComprised of works by 11 multidisciplinary artists who have participated in the AIRIE residency\, Fragile unearths new perspectives on the intricate and complex systems in which the vastness of the River of Grass operates.
