SUMMARY:The University of Miami presents 'For I Shall Already Have Forgotten You'\, an exhibition by Diego Waisman
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 20th from 6 – 9pm The University of Miami Gallery in Wynwood presents the Opening Reception for the exhibition\, For I Shall Already Have Forgotten You\, by Diego Waisman. Despite the last economic recession\, cities across the US have seen a rebound in real-estate value. As a result\, land appreciation has allowed developers to target low-income neighborhoods\, paving the way for gentrification. As one South Florida reporter suggested\, Mobile Home Park communities have become the “low-hanging fruit for developers.” The disappearance of these Mobile Home Park communities is expanding homelessness and affecting the ever-shrinking inventory of affordable housing. \nIn a collection of images that are both quiet and telling\, For I Shall Already Have Forgotten You portrays the vulnerabilities experienced by residents of South Florida’s mobile home communities amid rapid urban transformation and the threat of economic displacement. Photographer Diego Alejandro Waisman captures a fractured sense of place in Miami-area neighborhoods that once flourished but are now increasingly forgotten. The exhibition is on view from July 17 – August 30\, 2024.
