SUMMARY:Searching for Giants: Inflatable Art Across Broward County
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, September 6th from 10:30am – 12pm attend the official launch of “Searching for Giants” the first ever countywide display of giant inflatable art. Be the first to see the giants and enjoy live music\, free food and coffee\, augmented reality\, yoga and an exclusive photo op at this official launch with Broward Commissioners. Find the giant inflatable sculptures at a County park or library near you\, this first-of-its-kind public art project will bring pop-up art to the County’s 1.9 million residents\, with large-scale inflatable sculptures measuring up to 30 feet high. Spread over two months\, the exhibitions will be open to the public and will encourage audiences of all ages to socially engage with art and culture. This Event is FREE and Open to the Public\, RSVP here.\nThe inflatable sculptures displayed in “Searching for Giants” were created by Giants in the City\, an internationally recognized collective dedicated to bringing the vision and talent of a multidisciplinary group of contemporary artists out of the galleries and museums to public places around the world.\nThis exhibition is an exciting lead-up to the County’s signature event – Riptide Music Festival\, which is expanded this year to feature music\, food\, fashion\, and art. SUMMARY:The Frank: Spray Paint and Stencils
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 14th from 10am – 12pm The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery and Exhibition presents a mixed media workshop. Artist Ronald Sánchez will demonstrate a variety of street art techniques merged with typography\, masking and assemblage. Students will apply these methods to create an eye-catching work of contemporary art that is equal parts pop and urban art.\nSánchez is a mixed media conceptual artist based out of the Laundromat Art Space artist residency program in Miami. His artwork combines typography\, tagging and other paint media with otherwise overlooked items from everyday life\, such as reclaimed wood\, street signs and other found objects.\nThis event is free to the public. All materials provided. No prior experience required. Ages: 12yrs+\n  \nPLEASE NOTE: Workshop spots are on a first come\, first serve basis. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 28th from 1-2pm enjoy a Special Saturday in the Park: Closing Reception with AIRIE\, Artists in Residence in Everglades. Join AIRIE for a special Saturday in the Park and celebrate the closing of their current exhibit “Fragile” and National Public Lands Day in Everglades National Park. Fragile closes on Tuesday\, October 1\, 2019.\nAs official Volunteers in the Park\, AIRIE residents work with park rangers\, scientists and the public to create new and creative ways to experience and engage in one of our country’s most fragile resources – our wild\, public lands. For this special Saturday in the Park\, enjoy free admission not only to the AIRIE Nest Gallery to view the exhibition Fragile\, a multi-media exhibition exposing and examining the delicate fragility of the Everglades ecosystem\, but also enjoy free entrance to the park itself to explore the over 1.5 million acres of the country’s only subtropical wetland. (Park entrance fee normally $30 per vehicle.)\nComprised of works by 11 multidisciplinary artists who have participated in the AIRIE residency\, Fragile unearths new perspectives on the intricate and complex systems in which the vastness of the River of Grass operates. Featured in the exhibition are Israeli artists/collaborators Keren Anavy and Tal Frank (AIRIE Fellows 2018)\, Miami-based visual artists Franky Cruz (2015) and Naomi Fisher (2013)\, Israeli and Australian collaborators Itamar Freed and Courtney Scheu (2019)\, Florida-based photographer Karen Glaser (2009)\, Miami-based sculptor Brookhart Jonquil (2016)\, Miami-based performance artist Ana Mendez (2013)\, Savannah based fiber artist Sara Beth Rabinowitz (2014) and British artist Rebecca Reeve (2012).
