DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, November 6th from 7-9pm join Locust Projects and Oolite Arts for a conversation at the Little Haiti Cultural Center with Ruba Katrib. Curator Ruba Katrib returns to Miami for the final Talks of the fall season. Katrib is curator of cutting-edge MoMA PS1. Previously\, she held curatorial positions at SculptureCenter\, NY and at the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami.\nRuba Katrib is the Curator at MoMA PS1 in New York. At MoMA PS1 she has curated exhibitions such as the retrospective of Simone Fattal in 2019\, and the solo shows of Edgar Heap of Birds (2019)\, Karrabing Collective (2019)\, Fernando Palma Rodríguez\, and Julia Phillips (2018). From 2012-2018 she was Curator at SculptureCenter in New York where she curated over twenty solo and group exhibitions including 74 million million million tons (2018) (co-curated with artist Lawrence Abu-Hamdan)\, The Eccentrics (2015)\, Puddle\, pothole\, portal (2014) (co-curated with artist Camille Henrot)\, Better Homes (2013)\, and A Disagreeable Object (2012); and solo shows of the work of Carissa Rodriguez (2018)\, Kelly Akashi\, Sam Anderson\, Teresa Burga\, Nicola L.\, Charlotte Prodger (all 2017)\, Rochelle Goldberg\, Aki Sasamoto\, Cosima von Bonin (all 2016)\, Anthea Hamilton\, Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook\, Magali Reus\, Gabriel Sierra\, Michael E. Smith\, Erika Verzutti (all 2015)\, David Douard\, and Jumana Manna (both 2014).\nPreviously\, Katrib was the Associate Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami from 2007 – 2012 where she organized several group and solo exhibitions. Katrib was also co-founder of the residency and exhibition space Threewalls in Chicago\, and has also held positions at the Renaissance Society and the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College\, where she currently serves on the Graduate Committee. She was a research advisor for the 2018 Carnegie International and a member of the Advisory Board for Recess\, a non-profit artist residency and exhibition space in New York. Katrib was one of the curators of SITE Santa Fe’s 2018 biennial\, Casa Tomada\, along with José Luis Blondet and Candice Hopkins.\nFree and Open to the Public / Register here. Enjoy a night of video-art projections presented by the Doral Contemporary Art Museum (DORCAM)\, part of the Miami New Media Festival\, where guests will experience DORCAM invited artists video-art on the street.\nCheryl Maeder’s photographs are in the permanent museum collection of The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum FIU in Miami\, exhibited internationally – The Musée du Louvre in Paris\, SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art\, Cooper Union in New York and Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 16th from 3-5pm experience the opening reception of Botanical at Oeno Gallery\, a solo exhibition featuring the work of artist Fiona Ackerman. Inspired by the narratives and botanical drawings of Canadian pioneers Suzanna Moodie and her sister Catharine Parr Traill\, Fiona Ackerman has created a series paintings that re-imagine nature. In her work\, Ackerman re-interprets the taxonomy of flora\, overlapping bold shapes with colorful flowers and stems\, seeds and fruit. SUMMARY:Miami Design District – Lagerfeld: The Chanel Shows
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 29th from 10am – 5pm experience a special showing of Lagerfeld: The Chanel Shows\, an exhibition of works by fine art photographer Simon Procter\, is opening on November 29th in the Miami Design District‘s Palm Court (140 N.E. 39th St.\, Suite PC102\, Miami) and will remain on view through January 3\, 2020. The exhibition\, by Rosenbaum Contemporary\, features photography from Procter’s book Lagerfeld: The Chanel Shows\, which was published in September by Rizzoli. Lagerfeld: The Chanel Shows can be viewed during gallery hours\, Monday through Saturday\, 11am to 8pm and Sunday\, noon to 6pm.\nProcter enjoyed unparalleled access to Karl Lagerfeld’s legendary runway shows for Chanel. The works on view provide a glimpse of some of Lagerfeld’s most iconic fashion shows including Chanel Beach\, Spring/Summer 2019\, Le Grand Palais\, Paris\, in which models walked along a long\, sandy beach lapped by real waves inside Paris’ Grand Palais\, and Chanel Ultra Rocket\, Fall Winter 2017\, Le Grand Palais\, Paris\, in which a realistic rocket gave the illusion of launching\, complete with sparks and smoke\, from inside the same venue. The featured works also highlight Procter’s unique aesthetic\, which synthesizes his fine art background in painting and sculpture with fashion photography to document the grand scale of runway shows and the architectural spaces in which they take place.
