SUMMARY:PAMM Free Second Saturdays: Haitian Heritage Month
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 13th from 11am – 3pm in celebration of Haitian Heritage Month\, join the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) for a day of free art and entertainment for guests of all ages. \nExplore Haiti’s deep roots in South Florida and its beautiful language\, people\, and culture\, all while creating art on the museum’s waterfront terrace. Enjoy performances by local Haitian drumming groups\, a celebration of Kreyòl poetry\, and Haitian music. Bring a poem to participate in our Kreyol poetry celebration and join in on PAMM’s drumming circle. \nAs part of PAMM Free Second Saturdays\, admission is free all day. Art activities are from 11am–3pm or until supplies last. \n11am | Opening procession\n11:15am–12pm | Opening Kemetic yoga session with Ayiti Bluez. Please bring your own yoga mat. Some mats are available on first come\, first served basis.\n12pm | National anthem of Haiti and remarks by PAMM Director Franklin Sirmans.\n12:30pm | Sunsum Machete Dance\n1pm | Ayiti Blues spoken word and poem\n2pm | Announcement of kite raffle\n3pm | Closing remarks and Tradisyon Lakou Lakay Shadow Dance\n3:30–4pm | Drum circle beach bash. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, May 17th from 5:30 – 8pm Pérez Art Museum Miami’s Museum Circle members are invited to join artist Jason Seife and PAMM Assistant Curator Maritza Lacayo for a special reception and exclusive preview of Seife’s first solo exhibition in the United States. Born and raised in Miami\, Seife is the son of immigrants\, particularly of Cuban and Syrian descent. His practice centers on his Middle Eastern heritage\, referencing Persian carpets and the intricate details found in mosques and other forms of Islamic art. He digitally designs his own carpet-inspired compositions\, mirroring weavers’ practice of associating patterns or colors with specific locations and communities.
