SUMMARY:NSU Art Museum Creativity Exploration: Discovering Your Direction
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 13th from 12 – 1:30pm explore the traditional design of a compass rose\, reflect upon your “true north\,” and create your own art with a working compass at NSU Art Museum. Creativity Exploration workshops promote the benefits of creative exploration and the mind-to-body experience. Studies have shown that 45 minutes of creative activity a day reduces stress and offers mental clarity and relaxation. In addition to producing a sense of well-being\, sessions expand participants’ perceptions of forms\, while increasing brain connectivity through visual and cognitive stimulation. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 14th from 1:30 – 4pm join NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale and the David Posnack JCC for an afternoon of art and film. The museum and cafe open at noon. Enjoy a docent-led tour of Remember to React that highlights West African art at 1:30pm. The tour will be followed by a screening of Laces at 2:30pm. This Israeli film tells the story of a complicated relationship between an aging father and his adult\, special-needs son whom he abandoned as a small boy. Through its portrayal of a relationship full of love\, rejection and co-dependency\, it illuminates and questions the importance of human life and human connection. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, April 16th from 12 – 1:30pm experience Art Roundtable with South Florida contemporary artist Tina La Porta at the NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale. Artist Tina La Porta will discuss her decade-long body of work\, Side Effects\, a series that explores and expresses her struggles with her diagnosis of mental illness. “Since being diagnosed with schizophrenia\, my work has become a method to talk about my disability through the language of visual art. In this sense\, despite my disability\, I am able to express myself and be a vital part of society\,” says La Porta.\nBorn in 1967 in Chicago\, La Porta moved to New York’s East Village in 1992 to pursue her Master of Fine Arts degree at The School of Visual Arts.
