SUMMARY:Emerson Dorsch Panel Discussion: Alfonso Borragán & Santiago Reyes Villaveces
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 5th at 6pm enjoy a panel discussion with Alfonso Borragán & Santiago Reyes Villaveces. Preceding the opening of the Bucarolito exhibition\, you are cordially invited to experience an artist talk with Alfonso Borragán and Santiago Reyes Villaveces. Hosted by Tyler Emerson-Dorsch and Kathryn Mikesell. Please RSVP to info@emersondorsch.com if you plan to attend.\nEmerson Dorsch is proud to present Bucarolito featuring Spanish artist Alfonso Borragán\, his first exhibition in the United States. Here the raw elements of Borragán’s art boil down to the MOUTH and the STONE. Think\, if you will\, of all the ways the human mouth serves as a threshold between an individual and the world at large. Similarly\, contemplate how many ways stones and their particulates represent site\, the earth\, the material universe\, and its non-living scaffolding. The action at the center of each of Borragán’s experiences is TO INGEST and to inscribe and reveal an image through this action. This is the alchemy. For\, in his environment of magenta phyto lights and dusty air\, groups ingest stones together.\n\n  \nImage: Alfonso Borragán\, Daguerrolito\, 2019.

SUMMARY:Emerson Dorsch presents Alfonso Borragán: Bucarolito
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, September 6th from 6-9pm Emerson Dorsch is proud to present an Opening Reception for Spanish artist Alfonso Borragán’s first exhibition in the United States. His exhibition Bucarolito will open at the end of a month in residence at the gallery and will be on view through October 5\, 2019 at Emerson Dorsch gallery in Miami’s Little Haiti.\nHere the raw elements of Borragán’s art boil down to the MOUTH and the STONE. For\, in his environment of magenta phyto lights and dusty air\, groups ingest stones together. In this case\, they eat bucaros\, which are small\, unfired clay vessels eaten by the Spanish Aristocracy in the 17th century. Clay and earth ingestion is an ancient practice. There are traces of Egyptian ingestions of the Limes of Nile. Partially eaten ceramics have been found in Greece. Romans imported Greek edible ceramics with great impact; they led to terra sigillata. Bucaros appear in Renaissance still lives and in Diego Velázquez’s painting Las Meninas. Those who ate them believed its properties could transform human matter.\n  \nImage: Alfonso Borragán\, endolito\, 2019.

SUMMARY:Pan American Art Projects presents Carlos Quintana: The Diamond's Shadow
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 21st from 5-8pm experience the Opening Reception of Carlos Quintana’s exhibition\, The Diamond’s Shadow\, at Pan American Art Projects in Little River. The work of Carlos Quintana is the result of his mood. His world is his work\, and all of it is\, at the same time\, cumulative. Accurate separations between series or epochs are not possible in terms of the essential\, in each there is everything that comes out of itself. The only possible identification is given by the appearance of new elements\, which are added to the body as a branch to a tree\, literally. Another essential element of Carlos Quintana’s work is his condition as subject. He himself does not see his oils as paintings\, he sees them as a whole\, and that is why he stains everything: the frames\, the study\, himself. His work is also visceral\, as visceral is his attitude towards art\, and towards life. This exhibition is on view through November 14th\, 2019. The opening reception event is FREE and Open to the Public.\n  \nImage: Carlos Quintana’s ‘Yellow Umbrella’.

SUMMARY:Dot Fiftyone Gallery presents Juan Jose Cambre: Fiesta
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, September 25th from 7-10pm experience the Opening Reception of Juan Jose Cambre’s exhibition\, Fiesta\, at Dot Fiftyone Gallery. The gallery presents Fiesta\, the first solo exhibition in Miami by artist Juan José Cambre. Curated by Verónica Flom\, this exhibition consists of a series of recent paintings\, continuing with his interest in the exploration of color and geometry. On view through November 24\, 2019.\nHis pieces have been executed starting from planes that overlap and generate vertical stripes of new hues. The different matrices are presented as chromatic tests\, and it is from these nuances that the different pieces are produced. After going through several phases in his paintings: an expressionist period during the 1980s\, followed by a series of vessels for more than a decade and\, later\, by paintings of lights and shadows between trees starting in 2000\, Juan José Cambre is now concentrating on his never-ending interest in color\, by means of his choice of a simple and elegant geometric design.\nJuan José Cambre (b. 1948\, Argentina) has been one of the most important artists in Argentina’s art scene for the last forty years. Among his most notable solo exhibitions are the following: Mano de obra\, Colección Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat\, 2017; Desde el paisaje\, Museo Caraffa\, Córdoba\, and Museo Castagnino-MACRO\, Rosario\, 2014; Cromática\, MACBA\, 2013; and Novum Ovum\, Universidad Torcuato Di Tella\, 2012. His work has been exhibited internationally in Milan\, San José de Costa Rica\, and New York.\n  \n\nImage: Juan José Cambre’s ‘Ludus Tonalis A’\, 2019.
