SUMMARY:The ARC: PURVIS YOUNG exhibition from The Martin Siskind Family Collection
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, September 18th from 6 – 9pm enjoy the Opening Reception and an Art Panel (Q&A) for the PURVIS YOUNG exhibition ‘Deictic Articulations: The Art of Purvis Young\,’ featuring selected works from The Martin Siskind Family Collection at The ARC (Arts & Recreation Center) in Opa-Locka presented by Ten North Group. The O&A features Curator Dr. Adrianne Von Lates. \nThis show pays homage to the extraordinary legacy of Purvis Young\, an artist whose work has indelibly shaped the history of Miami’s art scene. The exhibition encompasses a selection of works from the collection of Martin Siskind\, a close friend and long-time supporter of the artist. \nFrom his earliest years\, with his Goodbread Alley street display of hundreds of small paintings\, it was Young’s ambition to share his work with as many people as possible. His images cry out to be savored by a large audience\, not locked up in storage. (…) Visitors to this exhibition will be beguiled by images that look as fresh as the day they were painted. They remain forever Young. -Dr. Adrianne Von Lates \n

SUMMARY:Adrienne Arsht Center presents Brushes With Cancer
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 24th at 6pm the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts invites art lovers\, collectors\, and the Miami community to experience Brushes With Cancer\, a program of Twist Out Cancer that pairs artists with people whose lives have been touched by cancer\, including previvors\, survivors and caregivers. Together\, they create powerful works of art inspired by each person’s unique story and journey. All are invited to enjoy the Opening Reception of Brushes With Cancer\, with a special art viewing and silent auction\, featuring original works of art created through this transformative program in the Knight Concert Hall Lobby. This event is free and open to the public. RSVP HERE. \nNow in its third year\, the Arsht program is presented in collaboration with the international Brushes With Cancer program\, pairing accomplished artists with “inspirations\,” people whose lives have been impacted by cancer as previvors\, current patients\, survivors or caregivers. The artists bring to life the inspirations’ twist on cancer — stories\, feelings and experiences — with works of art that represent the inspirations’ personal journey with the disease. \nThe program finishes on a high note with a celebratory art viewing at the Arsht. The event is open to program participants\, families\, artists and the Miami community. The evening will include a silent auction\, refreshments and remarks by program participants. \n
