DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 26th from 10am – 6pm and Sunday\, February 27th from 10am – 5pm The Rotary Club of South Miami proudly presents its 37th annual festival during the last weekend of February! The South Miami Rotary Art Festival takes place in the historic downtown area of South Miami on Sunset Drive (SW 72nd Street) from US 1 to Red Road (SW 57th Avenue) adjacent to The Shops at Sunset Place. See RSVP HERE. \nVisit us on Saturday\, from 10am-6pm (and stay later for live music in the beer garden\, until 8:00pm)\, and on Sunday from 10am-5pm. Stay afterwards on Saturday night for our local open jazz jam until 8pm! \nThe area is filled with historic buildings\, restaurants and unique shops. Just three miles south of Miami’s Coconut Grove\, South Miami borders the University of Miami and the upscale neighborhoods of Coral Gables and Pinecrest. \nFree admission for patrons and ample garage and street parking are available in this exciting area filled with historic buildings\, trendy restaurants\, and unique shops. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 26th from 4 – 5pm experience a live\, in-person art lecture at NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale\, Talking Walls – Narrative and Propaganda in Italian Renaissance Murals: a Rocky Ruggiero Lecture on Renaissance Painting. Join celebrated art historian Dr. Rocky Ruggiero as he explores the Renaissance roots of today’s street art. Discover how Renaissance painters transformed the walls of the churches\, palaces\, and streets of their day into visual platforms from which they could project religious\, social\, and political ideals. These ideals were expressed often in narratives\, as allegories or in historical subjects. This presentation will explore the evolution of mural paintings in medieval and early modern Italian art using the works of Giotto\, Michelangelo\, Raphael\, Botticelli\, and Fra Angelico. \nFree with Museum admission / RSVP HERE.
