DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 16th from 6 – 9pm enjoy the unveiling of Carola Bravo: Between Absence and Presence in Collins Park during Culture Crawl\, winner of The Bass’ New Monuments artist open call\, a project established in 2020 with support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation through the museum’s Knight Art Commissions Program. \nVenezuelan American artist\, architect and cultural activist Carola Bravo challenges the traditional commemoration and use of public monuments by asking “what reflects impermanence better than recognizing invisibility and absence?” With Between Absence and Presence\, the artist highlights society’s inverted values\, reflecting the viewers’ gaze back towards themselves. The spectator becomes viewer and performer\, sparking questions about our participation in how monuments legitimize and assign value to persons\, places and moments. \nMuseum members enjoy complimentary wine by Dry Farm Wines during this opening event. The longest running live music series on Miami Beach\, with Latin Jazz on Tuesdays\, Thursdays\, and Sundays. Listen along while dining in LT Steak & Seafood or enjoying a refreshing libation at the Bar. Ellis has worked extensively in the Caribbean\, Florida\, and Hawaii performing pop and jazz with many great musicians. \nRYAN ELLIS is a highly-regarded jazz pianist and an award-winning music teacher in the Miami Dade County Public Schools. As a touring performer\, Ellis has worked in the Caribbean and Hawaii performing with Eddie Jones\, Bobby Dukoff\, Paul Brown\, and Ira Sullivan. He is Director of the Choral program at Zelda Glazer/Miami Dade Arts Charter and prior\, in his role at Ferguson High School\, his chorus has performed in Kennedy Center\, Chicago\, Atlanta\, Orlando\, and New York’s Carnegie Hall. Ellis received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and a graduate degree from Florida International University with special support and commendation from the Johnny Mercer Foundation. @ryanellis
