DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, August 4th from 5:30 – 6:30pm NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale presents Sensational Spaces: Giotto\, Rothko and Schnabel: LIVE Virtual Lecture with Rocky Ruggiero\, Ph.D. With additional commentary by Bonnie Clearwater. Join art historian and television personality Rocky Ruggiero and NSU Art Museum Director and Chief Curator\, Bonnie Clearwater\, for “Sensational Spaces: Giotto\, Rothko and Schnabel” as they once again explore how the pictorial space created by Renaissance painters influenced contemporary artists. In this Live Zoom talk they will show how early Renaissance master Giotto inspired Mark Rothko and Julian Schnabel.\nFree for Museum members; $5 non-members / Register to join on Zoom. RSVP here.\nRocky Ruggiero is a professor of Art and Architectural History and expert on Italian Renaissance art who has lectured at numerous universities throughout the United States and Italy. His television appearances include the History Channel documentaries\, Engineering an Empire: Da Vinci’s World and Museum Secrets: the Uffizi Gallery\, and the NOVA PBS program Great Cathedral Mystery.

She shoots primarily in black and white to explore the immutability of the collective human experience and to disrupt compositional hierarchy. Please RSVP here.\nThe Film\nThe groundbreaking artist Pat Steir\, a leading light in the development of Conceptual Abstraction and a trailblazing feminist\, has been on the forefront of American painting for half a century\, and her professional and personal life have intersected with many of the most influential artists and poets of her generation—from Sol Lewitt to Agnes Martin to John Cage to Anne Waldman. This intimate\, revelatory portrait by Steir’s friend\, the novelist and filmmaker Veronica Gonzalez Peña\, was shot over the course of three years primarily in Steir’s home and studio. Enlivened by a visually poetic style and the clear affection between filmmaker and subject\, the film offers a profound look into the life of an artist.\n  \nNOTE: All attendees must RSVP before 4 p.m. on August 19 to participate.
