SUMMARY:Coral Gables Museum: Catalog Launch for "The Vote that Saved the Biltmore..."
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, August 2nd from 6 – 8pm join Mayor Dorothy Thomson at Coral Gables Museum for the exclusive launch of her exhibition catalog ‘The Vote that Saved the Biltmore: The Edifying Legacy of Dorothy Thomson’\, now on sale in the Museum Store for $30. Dive deeper into the captivating story of the public servant that fought to preserve one of our city’s most iconic landmarks. Whether you’ve visited the exhibit since its opening last October or not\, this event is a celebration of our community’s rich history and commitment to preservation. The exhibition will be on view until Sunday\, August 13th\, so don’t miss your chance to take home this civic journey through this beautifully curated catalog. RSVP HERE. \n  \nThis exhibition explores a turning point in the City of Coral Gables when Dorothy Thomson changed the course of history for the Biltmore Hotel. In 1980\, the historic icon was vacant and vandalized. \nCommissioner Thomson changed her vote in the City Commission and paved the way for the Biltmore to be restored as the hotel landmark it is today. \nAlong with the work of other city commissioners then\, Dorothy Thomson was decisive in upholding the architectural legacy of city founder George E. Merrick. The exhibition also covers Thomson’s remarkable political career and her many contributions to community life and the historic preservation of The City Beautiful.
