SUMMARY:Vizcaya Museum and Gardens presents Exhibition Reception: “Pastiche” by Lauren Shapiro
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 23rd from 6:30 – 9pm Vizcaya Museum and Garden‘s 2024 Contemporary Arts Program presents the Opening Reception for\, Pastiche\, a new exhibition to be held in Vizcaya’s Courtyard. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. At 7:00 p.m.\, Vizcaya Curator\, Helena Gomez\, will give opening remarks and introduce Lauren Shapiro in an informal conversation about the inspiration and creative process behind Pastiche\, which will be on view through May 19\, 2025. RSVP / PURCHASE TICKETS HERE. \nThis exhibition features site-specific work by Miami-based artist Lauren Shapiro\, it explores the enduring legacy of Vizcaya’s artistic advisor\, Paul Chalfin (1874 – 1959)\, whose 150th anniversary we celebrate this year. Interpreting Vizcaya’s architecture\, history\, and environment through this lens\, Shapiro blends a series of sculptures inspired by three iconic spaces decorated by Chalfin: the Breakfast Room\, Enclosed Loggia\, and Reception Room. Known for integrating ceramics and technology\, Shapiro’s resulting vessels\, in artificial yet quintessentially Miami pinks\, blues\, and greens\, create a visual language that evokes the past while resonating with the present. \nThe Contemporary Arts Program (CAP) is supported by The Danielson Foundation\, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners\, as well as anonymous donors; and is sponsored in part by the State of Florida\, Department of State\, Division of Arts and Culture\, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture\, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
