Join the Museum of Art and Design’s Consulting Curator\, Isabela Villaneuva in conversation with Khadijah Cypress for MOAD Talks. This Event is Free & Open to the Public | RSVP HERE. \nKhadijah Cypress is a tribal member from The Miccosukee Tribe. She is Bird Clan and the mother of two boys. She works at the school on the reservation as a cultural and crafting teacher. She runs a cultural center on a volunteer basis outside of the school. She has been sewing cultural attire since she was 14 years old. Since picking up a pair of scissors and sitting at an industrial sewing machine\, she has accomplished several things including sewing for the tribe’s fashion show and hosted the tribe’s fashion show twice. Her work was presented in an exhibition at the Pérez Art Museum from 2021 to 2022. \nThis conversation with Khadijah Cypress is presented in conjunction with the Museum of Art and Design’s exhibition Abstraction as Legacy. This exhibition features a work by painter Lloyd Kiva New who was also a fashion designer and was a co-founder of Institute of American Indian Arts. \nLight refreshments will be served. GET TICKETS HERE. \nCurated by Carl-Philippe Juste\, the retrospective is on view August 1–November 15\, 2026\, with Duval-Carrié’s work filling The Betsy Gallery and extending into public space through nightly video art on The Betsy Orb throughout August. \nBorn and raised in Haiti\, Duval-Carrié left under the Duvalier regime as a teenager and later lived in Puerto Rico\, New York\, Montreal\, Paris\, and Miami. Ocner for an insightful and dynamic photography workshop. RSVP HERE. \nLearn about Matias’ works\, lighting\, how to capture a moment\, and the role of photography as a visual medium to shape narratives. \nThe workshop will begin in the Knight Skylight Gallery\, then move to sites around the Freedom Tower. Through practical guidance\, participants will engage in observation exercises\, how to frame place\, people\, and create visual storytelling. The workshop will conclude at the Freedom Tower\, where participants can share their works and reflect on how to create visual records of people and places that define Miami. \nParticipants may use either their cameras or cell phones to take images. \nMatias J. Ocner is a Miami-based photojournalist born in Buenos Aires\, Argentina and raised in Miami. Ocner works for the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald. His work is featured in Journeys of Freedom and Reflections\, two exhibitions at the Freedom Tower. Matias is often on the front lines of history\, documenting pivotal events through his photography.
