DESCRIPTION:Friday\, February 22nd at 7pm experience the Opening Reception of Stacey Mandell‘s solo exhibition at Miami Dade College (MDC) Hialeah Campus\, ‘Letters To Our Younger Self’\, curated by Noor Blazekovic and Alejandro Mendoza of Irreversible Projects.\n“Communicating through shorthand is my art. Gregg Shorthand is a phonetic writing system developed in the late 19th century. Its usage has declined greatly with the advent of technology. I create a type of urban iconography by using shorthand words and phrases as an abstract gestural form. The form’s meaning provides a narrative abstraction on the canvas. At its most basic\, shorthand is a series of elliptical figures and bisecting lines. I use those figures and lines to express my thoughts and feelings. I am inspired by words\, emotions\, culture\, activities of daily life\, and current events. I envision my art to illustrate a larger issue\, a culture\, or an idea that the viewer can relate to or learn from. My art is for anyone who seeks meaning from abstract art … and for anyone who does not.” —Stacey Mandell.
