SUMMARY:The Box Gallery: MUU BLANCO Black Point
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, April 5th from 7-10pm experience MUU BLANCO at The Box Gallery in West Palm Beach in Black Point\, an installation and performance.\nBlackpoint\, the performance in two movements by MUU Blanco\, wanders trough the cracks and wounds of that unreachable nation that is Venezuela nowadays\, amongst-us and for everyone\, and does it by installing himself precisely in the arduous site of its tensions\, disconnections and controversies and reflecting on two antagonistic narratives: on the one hand\, the heroic which deals with identity and patriotic values (allegorized by the beauty of its landscapes and is territory) and\, on the other\, the raw sonic and visual attestation of the violence -and repression- that abducts and taints its own social body (documented in the events that occurred in Caracas\, from February and March 2014). Amongst these two narrations\, one of them symbolic and aesthetic (the landscapes) and the other being broken and elusive (the facts)\, MUU’s work installs itself as a calling\, almost an outcry\, to starkly acknowledge the place where one lives and the place each one of us occupies in it\, to reflect on the both personal and collective task of fighting against the diffuse ways in which evil is present\, beyond our own wishes and personal opinions.\nThis event is FREE & Open to the Public\, RSVP here. $10 suggest donation at the door.

DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, April 16th from 12 – 1:30pm experience Art Roundtable with South Florida contemporary artist Tina La Porta at the NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale. Artist Tina La Porta will discuss her decade-long body of work\, Side Effects\, a series that explores and expresses her struggles with her diagnosis of mental illness. “Since being diagnosed with schizophrenia\, my work has become a method to talk about my disability through the language of visual art. In this sense\, despite my disability\, I am able to express myself and be a vital part of society\,” says La Porta.\nBorn in 1967 in Chicago\, La Porta moved to New York’s East Village in 1992 to pursue her Master of Fine Arts degree at The School of Visual Arts. Her work has been exhibited in South Florida and nationally and internationally at The New Museum\, NY; Museo Nacional Centro de Art Reina Sofia\, Madrid\, Spain; ƒcole SupŽrieure Nationale des Beaux Arts\, Paris\, France; Museu do Essencial e do Alem Disso\, Rio de Janeiro\, Brazil; Institute of Contemporary Arts\, London\, England; San Francisco Art Institute\, San Francisco\, CA; Centre Cultural de la Fundaci— “la Caixa\,” Barcelona\, Spain; The Kitchen\, New York\, NY.\nThis event is FREE for museum member; $10 for non-members. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 25th from 6-9pm New River Fine Art presents the opening reception for Merchants of Babylon\, an exhibition featuring the art of Marcus Jansen. Exhibition runs through May 25th\, 2019.\nMarcus Jansen’s socially critical paintings and installations have been exhibited in museums in Italy\, Germany and the United States and now they will be in South Florida during a selling exhibition at New River Fine Art.
